Chinese Democracy something that fans have been waiting for, and something that the Chinese may still be waiting for. In any case I went to Best Buy the only place it seems that you can purchase the album, and picked this up. I have to say the first few minuets were good but I felt rushed through, the music didn't seem to stick with me like previous works, but I was driving so I felt I needed to really sit with the music. When I did this is what I felt: Lyrically I was waiting for more, the lyrics were good but some points in various songs it felt like he was rushing the lyrics to the music. It seemed disjointed at points. I feel like the solos were not as smooth as previous works. Axl although I really enjoy the wailing and the screaming I felt over did it through out the album. I enjoy when he does the variations on his voice and there wasn't much of that here. In the song "Scraped" I feel like that is has the reminiscence of "My World" the short song at the end of UYI 2, and "Riad N' Bedouins" touches on the "Oh, My God" from End of Days with the faster sound & electronic backings. "Sorry" who's that directed at..hmm... Some of the lyrics sound like he stumbles to fit them in. It just sounds like he is talking to someone directly which is fine Tommy Lee did that in most of the M.O.M. The song is very emotional and maybe Axl's grown up but he's a lot nice about telling people off not like "Get In the Ring" "Shotgun Blues".
Although I am a loyalist to what was, I do have to say over all i have enjoyed the music by the third listening I am finding it to be a good album that I will listen to often. I have my favorites that seem to give me what I have been waiting for in these past years. I would like to see more continuity in the music it seemed to be a collection of sounds from the past 10 years which makes sense. Some songs had the electronic sound while others the Alternative sound and still there were the ballads. It wasn't as hard hitting as I would have expected but it was good.
The cover: Well I guess you could say my standards are high for GNR the artwork was not provocative, artsy, creative, or interesting to me. The front cover nice photo for a soft rock band. Inside it looks like a greatest hits with the photos of band members. The centerfold was ok but I just wasn't excited about 10years of waiting and such simple work.
Overall, I would have to say this GNR album is different not in a bad way just in its own way. Axl did some good work here. I still wonder what it would have been like with Izzy's influences could we have seen more thoughtful lyrics and music?
What's great about it: The long awaited album has finally surfaces it gives us what we wanted new music, taking back the Metal sceen
What's not so great: The sound isn't fluid maybe just my CD but some songs are loud (tone) others soft keep adjusting volume

I am amazed at how great and new and refreshing this release is. It is not classic GnR sounding but instead is an amazing full body of work. There are traces of everything, GnR, Bee Gees, NuMetal, Beatles.). The whole album is a new direction for music as a whole. Noone has written music with these kind of chord changes in quite a while. I just say, listen to it as if you are hearing a completely new band and not classic sounding GnR you will love it. It has music for everyone. Complex layers of music and orchestration over great vocal melodies. Great job Axl, this was definitely worth waiting for.

It should have been so much better, it's actually pretty tame by todays standards and is far removed from G N' R of old. I went to many shows and any midnight releases they had back in the day, so I think I can say I was a hardcore fan, dating back to the pre-Appetite days when my buddy had their 1st original release! I listened to this new album and just sighed, and not a relaxing sigh either, a sigh of disappointment. The most rocking song is the one released on the radio, the rest is just, meh... There's nothing that reminds of the greatness the G N' R name once carried. It is "ok" if you separate it from the early days, but it's still not great by any means. There's no RAW on it, a lot of it sounds like Axl complaining and for an album that cost as much as it did to make, the music is sub-par for a bunch of well known & respected musicians. I don't say this because I miss the original line-up, which I do, however, you won't walk away saying, I need to hear that again, that rocked! His next album better have RAW if he expects to keep his fans and not be taken as a failure and a joke.
What's great about it: It finally got released....

Axl Rose needed an epic album to silence the critics who would undoubtedly hammer him for the fact that the album took 15+ years and for using the GNR name without any other original members. Thankfully Axl has delivered exactly that. Chinese Democracy is an uncompromising hard rock record with an incredible variety and some truely stunning moments. From the grinding rock of Chinese Democracy, to the industrial sounds of Shackler's Revenge, to the Elton John style piano on Street of Dreams, to the epic vocal performance on There Was A Time, to the soft but powerful lyrics of This I Love, this album has something for everyone. Chinese Democracy is without a doubt one of the best rock albums in a long LONG time. I will not put it up against Appetite because it is not the same band, both albums are masterpieces in their own right.
Do not miss out on this album just because you are upset that it is not the original Guns N' Roses. I would love to see them get back together just as much as anyone, but if you give this record a chance you will not be disappointed.
What's great about it: Phenomal music. Tons of variety. Finally something different

Axl sounds different..He can really hit the high notes. Its like everyone and their mother are playing on this cd. At some points there are like 5 guitarists playing and 2 drummers. I know alot of people helped on the album but the way the tracks are mixed are horrible. You have Axl singing really low key and really high key over each other. Some of the songs are good but are better live. For an album 15+ years in the making, the jury is still out if this album is worth it or Axl just needs to go back into hiding and go away!! I will be shocked if another album is ever made by him again
