It's appropriate to say that no album in existance can ever live up to 13 years of anticipation. Especially an album from a band that was as huge as Guns N' Roses. That being said, however, Chinese Democracy is one heck of a good record! I was afraid that what we'd get is a vain attempt by Axl to recreate his earlier albums. Instead, Chinese Democracy is an extension of them. It doesn't try to invoke the past, it uses it to build on top of it. The result is an album that sounds confident and new.
"Chinese Democracy", the lead single, opens strongly and then is quickly followed by the short "Shackler's Revenge". Then comes the second single, "Better", which begins a string of excellent tracks. The guitar riffs are well-played even though Slash is nowhere to be found. Some songs have 5 guitarists that played on them over the 13 years of hiatus, yet you can never tell that. The production is seamless.
The jury is still out on whether the world will find that this album justifies such a long wait, but I think it does, and this is one of the best rock albums out there. Let's hope it won't be another 13 years before the next one comes out!
What's great about it: Tons of variety, great vocals, same grandness from Use Your Illusion I-II

I can still remember picking up Use your Illusion I and II all those years ago. Who would have told me that the first album of new (non-cover) material would arrive in 2008??? Luckily, the album was worth the wait. The songs have that vintage GNR style, even if Slash and co. left long ago.

This is unbelievable! A great rocker once said "What we got is gonna turn your brain to s***" and that is exactly what this album does. I love this album and am 100% sure it was worse the wait and the $11.99.

People can criticize this album all they want, but when its all said and done this album will go down as one of the greatest albums ever. Its like the original Guns N" Roses lineup but on steriods!!! For people that are real musicians will appericate this album for its incredible variety, and almost covering everystyle of music. Then you come to the A list Shreders on this album, Buckethead ( Greatest Guitar player ever) (and if you think otherwise you are obivioulsy living under a rock and no nothing of this musician) then theres bumblefoot, and robin fink, Axl has assembled one of the best lineups to get the vision he had in his head out. So quit hating on this album because you know the original lineup wishes they were apart of this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've read a lot of reviews on the new GNR and there really isn't much I could say that has not already been said. I must say this though. There has been a lot of reviews stating that the listener sampled the new album on My space. Let me just say, "DO NOT JUDGE THE ALBUM FROM STREAMING AUDIO". The first time I heard "Chinese Democracy" I listened to it on My space and I hated it. But being a huge fan of Axl Rose, I decided to buy the album anyway. I listened to it in my car and had a completely different experience. If your a fan of great music, this is an amazing album!!!
What's great about it: Axl Rose, great musicians, great songwriting..

I just got done listening to it for a second time, and I have to agree with what one person has said, you have to listen to it several times. I have to admit the first time I really didn't like it. But after the second time it started to grow on me. Maybe I was expecting more, but I have to say it is a good album. It's not like their first one but it is pretty good.

This album from start to finish is a superior Guns N Roses Classic. Axl proves he can create a master piece and carry on the band name with integrity and the honor it deserves.
There isn't a musician on this album that can't run circles around any memebers of the original line up. Take this factor and combine it with Axl's lyrical greatness and song writing ability and you have one of the greatest rock albums of all time.
If you think you have already heard it guess again! Ron Thall offers up a sensory assualt that was definately missing in the demos leaked earlier this year. The overall sound of this record is absolutely EPIC!
I don't listen to hype and neither should you! But it is very rare to find an album today that doesn't have it's share of fillers on it. And with 14 tracks there is no fat to be found on this album.
There is nothing in the last ten years that can compare to greatness of Chinese Democracy. Thank you Axl!
What's great about it: Sorry, Chinese Democracy, I.R.S, Madagascar
What's not so great: All of the people who couldn't wait to hate this album!
