My 12 year old son wanted to see this movie. Not knowing too much about it, I checked out the story and thought it would be good for him to see. This is one of the most powerful movies we have ever seen. From the actors to the costumes to the direction and filming, it is fantastic. (Should have won the Academy Award.) It really opened my son's eyes to the horrors of war and we could relate it to current situations in today's world. I highly reccomend it for mature 12 year olds and up. You'll never be the same after you see it.

I would say this is a very heart warming story, but who could say that about a movie based on the Holocaust?? The friendship of the two boys is very heart warming, but leaves you with a very heart breaking ending. I thought this movie was amazing.

In my history class we ended up watching this movie. I really wasn't sure about it, and it seemed kind of dumb at first but once it started, I really really got into it! It's so sad and nearly made me tear up. Truly remarkable acting, and all over a very amazing movie. We have a lot of racist people up here, and even people who drive around waving the Na*i flag. It's horrendous! I really want to show this in my Economics class(we watch movies occasionally) because we have a lot of racist people in there as well. I am definitely thinking I might end up just buying this movie. It's totally sad, but one you HAVE to see!
What's great about it: Great acting, story plot and catches the eye fast!
What's not so great: The fact that stuff like this actually happened

This is one of those movies where you stand there screaming at your TV for one of the characters to "not go in there" but they do anyways. It was nice to see Professor Lupin acting in another movie and his acting did not dissappoint at all. The movie keeps you involved and the ending will just leave you in shock.

My 13 year old son was absolutely quiet as the credits rolled.... There is no such thing as a perfect movie. Especially since we all have our own ideas about what that would entail. Usually we excuse artistic license as a means of telling a story allowing room for things to happen that may seem out of place. This movie has the feel of a stage play, with young characters showing emotion well beyond their years. The two boys eyes are enough to tell the story. Is Bruno naive? Yes he is, but he represents everyone who turned a deaf ear to the atrocities of WWII. Seen through his eyes we are taken on the journey of an innocent and in seeing it that way it makes it even harder to believe that anyone who knew what was happening at that time would look away or pretend that it was not happening. He trusts that people are good and his innocent heart knows that no one is the enemy just because of something like their nationality, especially another 8 year old boy.
The picture is gorgeous, the sound is fantastic especially in the closing scene as we race to the conclusion. Vera Farmiga is wonderful here - I wish they had actually developed her breakdown even further. And the two boys are captivating.
Perfect movie? No such thing. Stunning movie? Thought provoking? Absolutely.

I love this movie. It's well written and has you following the innocent thought process of a child who just wanted a friend to play with. And how the innocent children get caught up in grown-ups war. Something that they don't understand. Pull out the tissues.

I had to read this book for English class but I forgot to read it and the night before I bought this movie so I didn't have to read the book. If you are lazy the movie is very similar to the book!
