Where Have You Been All My Life

Couldn't wait for this camera to get to stores after reading PRESS RELEASE in February. No disappointments after buying and using for several weeks. Combination of 12.1-Megapixels with a 720p HD Movie Mode makes this camera the only one I need to take anywhere. It's so small, I usually keep it with me all the time. Has all the features you could want for photo control or you can set it to "point and shoot." Movies can go straight to HDTV with excellent video and above-average audio. If your going to carry it in your pocket, think about putting it in a small case or bag as coins, etc.,could result in scratches. The next steps for Canon would be to increase the 3x Optical Zoom and make zooming during filming available.
If you're thinking about an HD Pocket Video Camera, think about spending a little more for this HD/12.1-Megapixel combo. The SD 780 replaces two of my cameras.
Pros: easy to use, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, built-in hdmi connector
Cons: no optical zoom when filming

Great camera for the price

Don't believe the negative comments. For one, one review will say the camera has poor image quality, yet the very next review says it has excellent image quality. These are qualitative analysis and not to be considered quantitative. Basically, there's no given value for the image quality. I personally have found the image quality to be exceptional, as have my friends who have seen my photos. The video is great if you use a high enough resolution, and yes there is some motor noise, especially while zooming, but I have filmed in the wild and haven't noticed any ambient noise.
For the price, this is a fantastic camera. If you spent another thousand, you could get better image quality and better low light performance, better video and probably faster reload speed. You cannot have a champagne operation on a beer budget, so take these reviews for what they are worth. If you are accustomed to high end equipment, this aint it. If you want a camera that's better than the blister pack camera you own, or your other mid range got stolen, this is a great mid range camera.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

Great little camera!

Does everything that I need. Makes greats video, too. Easy to carry everywhere I go. Easy to use. Takes fabulous pics!
My only con is that there is a bit of a time lag after pressing the shutter in flash mode, so if the subject moves, things can get a bit blurry. My workaround is to use multi-shot mode.
Pros: easy to use, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life

have just had this camera for little over 3 days now. and i cant put it down.. did alot of research before i bought it. and found this is the most you can get for a modest price. the 12megapixels far exceeds my expectations. takes beautiful pictures indoors, outdoors, low light, NO light, sun, etc etc. first cannoni've owned and it wont be the last. if your on the fence about this camera go ahead... jump over.. cannon will catch you
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable

Hopefully, when you buy a new camera, your new one will always be better than the one before it, what with the new technology and such. This camera does not dissapoint. I purchased it to take indoor pictures of my grandson without flash, and to take short videos of him, and it is just perfect. It is easy to use, has mucho great features, and above all, produces great 8x10 prints. Buy this one; you will not regret it.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable

Exceeds Needs

I was going back and forth between this model and the SX200 IS. They are very similar. The big difference is that te SX200 has a 12X optical zoom and this model only has 3X. However, this model has a viewfinder and the SX200 does not. That was the deal breaker for me. I gotta have a viewfinder. I can't hold a camera steady enough at arms length to use the LCD. Plus the LCD is the biggest drain on the battery and can be hard to see outdoors on a bright day. For those reasons I knew it was best for me to get a camera with a viewfinder even if it meant giving up some of the zoom power. This camera is perfect for me. It is so small and powerful. The pictures are great. The HD video is fabulous. It is easy to use. I was comfortable with the price too.
Pros: easy to use, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, viewfinder, hd video

Excellent camera

Very pleased with this camera. Very good picture quality and it's user friendly. The door for cable connection seems somewhat flimsy, only time will tell if it stands up.
This camera is loaded with features but I set it to auto and let the camera do the work.
One nice feature is it has a view finder, allowing you to turn off the LCD screen and save battery power.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life

This really is a great camera! I love how it fits in my pocket without making a huge bulge. Very easy to use controls. My experience is that it does very well in low-light conditions. 12MP is astounding. Battery life is disappointing -- better carry a spare!
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: Short battery life
