I was skeptical of a USB TV interface, but it works perfectly well. I never expected an included antenna and it works fine in my 2nd floor bedroom (I am within 5 miles of 3 broadcast towers). I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium and never needed the included installation disk. Be advised that the remote control will not work with Windows Media Center. I'm also a Linux geek and linux.org DOES have support for the digital tuner functionality!
What's great about it: There is 3rd party Linux support!
What's not so great: As expected, the remote control only supports the included software.

Installation was straight forward, but need not work. Even with the newest drivers and software never could get the lower channels (2-63) to be mapped in. The other channels came in clear and were great to look at. The other issues was that there was no good way to see what was coming on the different channels. (channel guide) MS Media Center has a guide, but the signal never stayed stronger enough to really watch the channel This device is going back this week end, I am a very unhappy tech-er at the moment. ;-) Customer service was bad, the guy hung up on me. While I was trying to get help.
What's great about it: Win 7 viewing of channels were pretty cool
What's not so great: The s/w did not show the lower channels at all. Customer service was awful. The guy hung up on me. What a joke!

I was surprised how well it worked on my PC under Windows 7. No skipping/studdering of video. Easy install with included DVD. Only missing item is guide. Maybe that will work with another software bundle. Right now using WIN TV 7. Running analog, digital, ASTC, QAM. World well. Easy set-up. Also, got it on sale for $69.99.
Great Product!

I got this when Comcast went to all-digital signals and I could no longer use an earlier analog USB solution for getting tv signals from my cable to my PC. Wasn't sure if I'd need another Comcast box between the cable and this device, but none was needed. I like that this starts up more quickly than my earlier cable-to-PC converter, with no hassle. The channels are clear, change quickly when I flip the remote or on-screen controls, and give me the complete range of channels I have through Comcast (none are premium). My only drawback with this is that I had to label each channel individually, since the device only assigned a numerical sequence to the channels. For all the improvements this give me, and the ease of using it on my 22-inch monitor with a direct cable plug-in, it's certainly worth that minor bit of work. In fact, I like the picture quality so much I added a second monitor to my PC, so I can either watch TV while working, or use the second monitor to spread my work across two screens. The TV tuner stick was definitely the factor which swayed getting the second monitor. I like it!

There are alot of good reviews for this product, but they are all from people who just installed it. I've had the unit for over 5 months and it overheats even when not in use. I've had it hanging from my pc's usb for the past 5 months without noticing the problem. Then when I switched cable modems I went to pull the coax out, and wow the tv tuner usb was hot to the touch. It won't last much longer and Best Buy won't give me my money back, because its past the 30days. As for the picture its pretty grainy, I've switched coax cables, usb ports, and moved all electrical wiring from the unit but the graininess doesn't go away. If you google Wintv-hvr 950q overheating, others have had the same issue. Don't buy this, you may damage other components in your pc.
What's great about it: Easy Install
What's not so great: Overheats when its not even being used

This is a great tuner and I've tried different brands. This is a keeper for me. The only problem with it is the remote will not work at all just using Windows Media Center othewise I would give this a 5 star rating. I find no need to install/use the WinTV cd. Not sure if you have to install WinTV to get the remote to work. Instructions don't say so. I can just use my wireless mouse anyway. You should not bother with the included antenna. Get the Mohu Paper Thin Leaf indoor antenna. Does any one know how to get the remote functioning?

This TV tuner works well with Windows Media Center once it's set up. Hauppauge offers its own WinTV software for using the device, but if you're running Vista or Windows7 you won't need it. If you have a cable to connect to the tuner it allows you to watch and record TV on your PC -- desktop or laptop, as long as you've got an available USB 2 port. This model works with digital and analog cable transmissions. If you have strong enough broadcast signals in your area the antenna may be useful, but it really works best with a cable attached.
What's great about it: Small, works with analog and digital TV signals, USB 2 compatible
