It's still worth it to me to purchase ink cartridges and keep it running as long as it will last! I believe that because I have contniued to purchase HP ink (not aftermarket ink), it has kept my printer in tip-top shape.

the first one lasted longer than I imagined it would--more than 2 years of light use, no photo printing though.
it's good that this series of printers allows one to remove the print-head easily and clean it.
though the price of this black ink sure has gone up over the last 2 years.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought 920xl as I thought my HP 6500 was out of ink, a usual thing to happen. When I installed a new black cartridge, it wouldn't print black. Clean heads three times. Still didn't print. So the HP6500, which worked for about 7 years, just didn't want to print black anymore for some reason. Colored printing still worked. I ended up buying new HP printer which uses 910 cartridges. I returned all 920 cartridges for a refund and am enjoying the new printer.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
