This is an awful GPS, I returned mine. I found the routing to be very sub par and the lack of adequate re-routing features to be terrible.
There is only one option for route type, but it does have a 'detour' button. Unfortunately the detour seems to just pick some random turn not far ahead and then gets you back on the same course. There's no way to say how long a detour, what to avoid, etc.
So if you want a GPS that just picks a route (probably a bad one) from A - B without much ability to change it maybe this is for you.
What's great about it: Nothing
What's not so great: Poor routing, lack of features

I have owned other Garmin GPS units before but for some reason, I could not get this particular model to operate correctly. It would not charge even after being plugged into the house outlet overnight and continued to turn off without reason. I returned this unit to the store for a refund and have not purchased a replacement yet...

I bought this unit for my wife who had to make a trip to downtown Philadelphia on her own recently. Upon setting it up, we tried it out locally by using it to locate places we already knew. The directions given weren't always the most direct or logical however; it did get us where we wanted to go. There is nothing hard about setting this up for the first time. In fact, it's almost so easy that you don't need directions. Essentially, you plug in an address and tell it to "go". As far as "Garmin" quality goes this is the second unit that I've owned. The first being a GPS for my boat, which also provided waypoints and depth findings. "Garmin" is a fine instrument for the money. In terms of what model is right for you, it depends on your personal needs. Sometimes it's better to simply have what you know you'll need without all the "bells and whistles". Would I buy this unit again? Yes, absolutely.
What's great about it: Extremely easy to set up and understand. Nothing complicated about it.
What's not so great: Found that directions given aren't always the shortest and most direct.

Used it last week on round trip NH to Washington DC. Traffic alerts not accurate - walked us into a 3 hour delay across GW bridge and showed "Green - no delays" the whole time. Most of our delays were unannounced and others that were flagged weren't there when we got there. Ads not a problem. Glad I didn't pay for it. Beware if pulling trailer - not towing friendly - have to put in waystops to force it to avoid tunnels, parkways, and 'shortcuts' off highway or you can just ignore and mute it. I wish it had info about rest/gas stops on a turnpike. It locates only the closest ones at exits. Speaker not very loud - cannot hear over radio very well. I think it will be a lot more useful on car trips and off highways where we can be more flexible.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Disappointed in traffic alerts

I needed a new GPS and was attracted by Garmin's reputation. The GPS constantly loses both satellite and traffic reception. I made a trip from San Diego to Los Angeles. While in the San Diego area, I couldn't see the Los Angeles area traffic; which was the whole point of spending the extra cash on the traffic feature. When you stop, the GPS will often get confused and think you have made a U-turn; so it tries to re-route you.
What's great about it: Good features and lifetime traffic

Went to best buy to purchase new gps, had a small navigon which worked pretty flawlessly for a couple years until it just died. Bought a garmin, by reputation, and chose this model because of the free live traffic option as i drive to DC everyday for work. First of all, the display didn't have option of miles to destination as my navigon did. That was just the beginning, several days in a row the satellite would just loose signal, for ten miles at a time on route 50 which is a major highway. Then yesterday, all the way home it had me on roads i was no where near, it had me like a half mile to the left or right of where i was, it was on my everyday to work so no danger of getting lost, but kept it running for traffic feature. I had to keep turning off and on to correct but withing couple minutes i was way off track again. I'm just glad i wasn't using it for somewhere where i didn't know where i was going. I just wanted to buy something that works properly, and i didn't. This unit will be returned in next couple days and won't buy garmin again,
What's great about it: Easy to read maps, Lots of downloadable options
What's not so great: Doesnt work properly, need i say more
