Being my first GPS, I was not sure which I should buy but this one looked like a good choice based on reviews I read and price.
The screen size is good and when it does give directions, most times they are accurate.
Most times starting from a location or reaching a destination it calls out the last turn opposite to what it usually is so if you are suppose to make a left it will say make a right.
Once it starts displaying route, it does not tell you the first step unless you have moved for a significant distance (so you have to read out the map - which is not always possible if you are the only person in the car).
POI is not that great.
I dont know how this compares to any other GPS devices or their features so take it with as a review from a novice at GPS devices (but not the concept or technology).

This model is worth the money. Simple to operate and accurate directions. This seems to be one of the only cost effectiveTom Tom models you can still use coordinates as your destination. Believe me I tried a few ) : GET IT ! IT WORKS WELL (:

I drove to AZ from CA and mounted a Tom Tom 3rd edition and this Garmin. By a mile Tom Tom was faster at calculating the directions. Garmin keeps reminding you that it's calculating when you stray (annoying) and I could not turn this feature off. The settings in Garmin are very few compared to TomTom. To change the volume Garmin takes 3 steps in and 3 steps out, TomTom is 2. This is a big deal when you're 80mph. Customization of Start screen and shutdown screen, TomTom offered MANY options, Garmin has VERY few and NOT userfriendly at all. I wanted to put the BMW logo on Garmin and I couldn't and changing the GPS voice was HARD. Garmini is way behind on website and software development. I can control my TomTom using my PC, Garmin - NO! I also noticed that TomTom was more precise with the maps..ie..when there's a curve, Garmin does not show it precisely. The view of the horizon is also more 3D in TomTom, while Garmin is a little flatter. I can go on with how much I hate Garmin compared to TomTom. Finally, I dropped my brother off and on my drive 50 miles home Garmin dies! It could not resolve the satelite connection until 30 miles later. TomTom was working the whole time. Next morning, Garmin dies again on my way to the bookstore and I had to turn the thing on. As I said, I can go on....but no Garmin for me ever!
What's great about it: The windshield mount
What's not so great: Annoying directions, dies sporadically, non intuitive navigation, limited customization
