The unit looks good but is hard to set up. Instructions were limited. There is more foreign languages then Instructions. When updating the unit on the Garmin site, the unit locked up and I returned it and got another one. I am aprehensive about updating on line. Also the speaker is not very good at high settings. This is my second Garmin product and I feel that Garmin is starting to lower its standards.
What's great about it: Ease of setting destination
What's not so great: Had to return a unit when it locked up when I updated the free update. Voice bad at high settings

I like the size and ease of use of my new Garmin 255W. My previous GPS (a Magellan) was about 12 years old, and is a giant thing. It worked amazingly well, but would never fit in my pocket! I think the tools and screens and features are well designed. I did go to the Garmin site to download the latest map set, and it was over 2 gigs of information. It wasn't apparent that it even downloaded, it wouldn't open, and when I finally got it working, it takes a looooooong time to update. But, overall, not a horrible experience, just not a fun hour to spend watching things spin.
What's great about it: Compact size, lots of features, easy to navigate through screens
What's not so great: updates are huge, take a long time, not intuitive

I bought three and two of the free map updates only took 2 hours to download but the third took 5 hours (my wife's camera USB cable plugged right into the Garmin - instead of spending $17 on a USB cable just spend $20 and get a camera or MP3 player with the cable). I've seen TomTom's that are much more difficult to use.
What's great about it: Easy to use & set up. Free Traffic advertisements not annoying or common for me to see
What's not so great: Out of three units, one has a problem spelling Katherine without using Chinese symbols at the end. Weird. That's it!

Here's an honest review regarding this unit. This unit was first sold for $219.99. Despite this, I got it for $139.99 which is a huge deal. I purchased one for my girlfriend and one for my parents as it has turn by turn speech in Korean. It's very innovative and when I purchased the unit, I was excited about the free life-time subscription to weather and traffic updates. Despite this, the traffic update wasn't so accurate as many reviewers has said. I've owned a Magellan previously and I must say, the Magellan gave a prompt sound when to take action. With this unit, it will tell you about half a mile to make a turn and when you have to make a turn it will repeat it again.
Additionally, this unit isn't so accurate when driving in Manhattan. I was trying to get to the Manhattan Bridge and I knew I was about 5 minutes away but instead of telling me to turn, it tells me to go somewhere else which took me 20 minutes. Another feature that is lacking with this unit is whether you want the fast route in regards to miles or the regular route. Typically, I like to take neighborhood roads as it is quicker to get to my house but this unit makes me take all major roads which is fine for first time drivers to the area but not so good when I want the quickest way home.
All in all, it's a pretty good unit. It loads quick and has more service than my prior units. I would definitely purchase this again if I had to choose again.
What's great about it: Price, easy set-up
What's not so great: Not really accurate, especially while driving in the city.

Had a hand held Garmin GPS for years and it always helped me find my spots of interest and feel this will be something the girl friend will enjoy for years to come. Already talking about taking it on our Harley trips.
What's great about it: It allows the girl friend some comfort when trying to locate her target.
What's not so great: Wish it came with a 110volt charger.

Very easy to set up and start using. Much more user friendly than the Garmin aviation GPS with automobile mode. We've gotten into some heavy traffic back ups and didn't get any traffic alerts. However, sometimes in normal city traffic it announces "Traffic Ahead." Not sure this feature is really working at all.
What's great about it: Very user friendly
What's not so great: Traffic allert hasn't been of any use. Not sure it really works.
