The Nuvi 255wt is the unit I purchased. Some functions are a little hard to figure out but over time I'm sure I will. The manuel with the unit was for a 205. I called the Co. about this & was told all units in that series were alike. I don't believe this to be true as I have run up on things not covered. Also, some points & addresses,not new sts, do not appear. I don't know if the unit is an older model but, if so , I wasn't informed so at the time of purchase. Other than these drawbacks the unit seems to perform as presented.
What's great about it: seems to perform most functions with ease
What's not so great: some points that I tried were not available, altho the destinations were not new.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I've had this GPS for about 1 month for personal use, not business. Have not used it extensively due to mostly local driving, but like it. I was surprised the user manual was so brief and almost useless. To use it you need to turn it on and figure things out, but the GPS does guide you step by step. There is a help function and a search feature. It pays to play with it, use the help and/or search to learn the tricks of using it. This unit has the free traffic feature. I do not live in a major metropolitan area so that is not of much benefit at this time. I did have the occassion to try the traffic function when driving through Charlotte and the GPS did report a traffic slow down ahead. I have not used the mounting bracket in my car as I usually just lay the GPS somewhere and listen to the spoken directions. I do like the estimated time of arrival feature and the feature showing the count down of distance to the next turn. I am overall pleased with my purchase and would buy this unit again.
What's great about it: Love the spoken directions given by street name
What's not so great: No complaints yet

My husband and I both received a Garmin 255WT for Christmas and absolutely love them. They are extremely easy to use and come with a ton of options. I only wish that I had more places I needed to go so I could use mine more.
What's great about it: Easy to use, great value for the price, easy to set up

Great GPS

I have owned a TomTom for a few years now and was frustrated by its limited points of interest. It was great for restaurants, lodging, gas, but terrible as far as places of worship (few to no Christian churches, only temples or mosques), and a strange lack of shops (the only grocery store listed was Food Lion). I tried out a Garmin in the store and was pleased with its POIs - great variety, easy to find and very accurate, complete with phone numbers. Then this model came up for sale at the holidays and had so many good features for the price.
There are many advantages over my old GPS - spoken street names really help, as well as the little icon showing the speed limit on many roads. It tells you the side of the street your destination is on, which so far has been accurate. I love the fact that it shuts on and off automatically when you turn your car on or off. The map graphic is very easy to read and follow - I like how it shows your upcoming turn in a clear arrow path. I have yet to see the free traffic icon appear - haven't used it in a large enough metro area yet, I guess, so can't comment on that feature.
I wish it had a clock showing the current time on the main screen (it only shows your arrival time), as well as a more easily accessible mute button -- you have to go through a couple steps to mute, which is hard when driving. But all in all I am very pleased with this unit.
What's great about it: so many perks for the price
What's not so great: mute button would be nice

I did not have a chance to use the battery because I plugged it in all the time, so I do not know the battery life.
The traffic alert seems function all right, I only had one experience with it. When I merged into a busy freeway, it warned me about it.
What's great about it: It is relatively easy to use, I did not need to read the menu to figure out how to use it.
What's not so great: There was one time it did not show me the closest Chevron gas station when I needed it.
I would recommend this to a friend!
