I had done days of web research. First comparing Garmin to Tom Tom to Magellan (picked the leader, Garmin). Then on products & features (w/ Bluetooth or without? Screen size? Best graphics? etc.). I bought this at Best Buy as my first GPS system ever and it is working entirely as advertised. Advantages: Garmin is best for map accuracy; 4.3 inch screen perfect for family trips; SD card slot [Tom Tom does not have in comparable model]. Disadvantages: still looking for some. Really any disadvantages are more about weaknesses in GPS systems overall, not the Garmin 255WT. A final suggestion, forget the BlueTooth model of the 255. Many user reviews say that model freezes up (when BlueTooth is active) and people on your line will complain they can't hear you.
What's great about it: Works right out of the box, all important features in it
What's not so great: Speaker is tinny, not great, but good enough

My wife, who admittedly can't find her way out of a wet paper bag, can now readily drive as needed. This product, for the price, works fine in this regard. NOTE: The unit voice cuts in and out if you have the map settings set to north up. The solution is to set the map settings to 3-dimensional view; then it works perfectly. I recommend this unit, it works real well for the price.

I purchased this GPS as a tool for my company so we could program in vendor locations for our truck drivers. So far it's been a very nice GPS and I've considered buying one for myself to replace my old Magellan one.
I love the Traffic feature that warns you of traffic ahead and to exit freeways or streets even when you don't have a current destination or route. This alone is reason to have one of these.
Second off, I love that it has 1000 user programable destinations. I have set up the good majority of our vendors (more as I drive to them) and it's easier for our other drivers to find them now.
Only cons that I can think of are that you have to be EXACTLY in the spot you programmed into the GPS, I'm talking down to exact parking space and everything, in order for it to count you as arrived at your location. It also sometimes gets confused with the user programmed destinations and says "destination on the left hand side" when it's on the right and vise versa. I would also like to see the addition of a chime or some sort of voice command when you are supposed to make your turns or when you reach a major location.
Other than that, this has been a wonderful GPS and it's much more feature rich than the ones I have previously used. All in all a good buy for the price.
What's great about it: Traffic alerts and programmable destinations
What's not so great: Need to be in EXACT spot saved in user destinations for it to register. No chime on turn or arrival.

I shopped around for the best quality GPS at an affordable price. I really like this model. I read different reviews and decided this one suited my needs.

Lots of bells and whistles to add both information and constant feedback for those of us who like that. It is fairly easy to use which is good as the directions are not helpful. Make sure you connect your GPS to the Garmin website and update your maps. Saying that, there is NO connecting wire that comes with this Garmin, so unless you have a previous Garmin or know someone who does, you will need to shop for the connecting wire!

I travel often for business. I have used Tom Tom's, Magellan's, and Garmin's. Garmin is the superior product by far. I purchased this unit as a gift for my mother. She is navigationally challenged, so I took the liberty to program in a few favorites for her. After playing around, I noticed a few things that bested my older nuvi 205w unit: -QWERTY keyboard layout was wonderful (the older 205w is alphabetical). -It zipped along much faster and was able to find satellites within a minute or so. -Traffic avoidance would be great for me... so it will be imperative for her! -Simple hardware design much like the other 2 nuvi units in my home (older 205w & 255w models). But why fix it "if it ain't broke!" Overall- very satisfied with the entire nuvi line. This hit the price point and offered enough features to stay relevant for the coming years. Would recommend to new to GPS users... or those just looking to upgrade an older model.
What's great about it: QWERTY keyboard, simplicity of use, traffic avoidance, price
What's not so great: Body scratches easily when rolling around in car floor

We have 2 of these, one I bought a year ago at $189 and the other I got this year for less than $100. It was worth it at $189 but an even better deal at the new price. Easy to use, faster than my original GPS. Tons of POI's and the LCD doesn't even seem to freeze in the extreme New England cold. Go with Garmin, best in the business.
