I bought this unit after Christmas and was excited about the traffic feature. However the traffic feature only works when the charger is pugged in. Other than that it is AWESOME!!

I have a 5 yr old garmin that needs updating so for the price I figured I'd get a new one. I purchased this one in December of 2010 and it has the same maps as my old one. I'll go with a tom-tom next time.

We had a Garmin that needed to be updated and given the price of the update, we went for a new model instead. This was a gift to us for Christmas, that we were able to pick out ourselves. The main issue we have is that it freezes up at least once every time we use it. This is very frustrating, as we must completely turn it off and then back on and re-enter the address. The maps do not appear to be updated and strangely enough, it will show an update one use (say a new addition to the interstate) and then next time we use it, it will not be updated. Also, the traffic alerts have been worthless at this point. It does not show delays and when it does, there typically is not a delay. Given that this was a Christmas gift, we will be returning this. It was quite a disappointment for us.

This product is sleek, stylish and has many useful features. Seeing that it was on sale for $79.99 on Best Buy's website, I clicked on it and added it to my cart. When I added it to my cart it kept ringing up as $99.00, so I called customer service and due to my trouble I wound up getting it for $69.99. I gave my Garmin Street Pilot to my mom, and I now own a brand new sleek Nuvi, for less than it would cost to update the maps on my old one. Excellent product! Excellent, customer service!
What's great about it: Options, design, price.
What's not so great: Voice prompts are given to quickly, and it sometimes brings you through downtown areas, that aren't neccessary.

I have another Garmin 265WT which my wife and I were sharing. Considering the quick reception and ease of use etc I bought the 255WT which isthe same as 265WT minus the bluetooth.
The only thing I don't like about Garmin is that their map updates are expensive ($60 last I checked).

Bought this for my husband. He loves it! It is easy to use. Garmin has a large variety of voices and vehicles that you can download for free (device did not come with a USB cable, but uses a standard one, we had one from a camera that also worked for this). The maps are clear and so far it has given us accurate directions. You can also download games if you want to (we havent). Will put it to a real test soon when we take a 2 week road trip!
What's great about it: ease of use, graphics
What's not so great: doesnt come with USB cable needed to register, update, etc

I've had the Garmin Nuvi 255WT for 4 weeks now and am pleased with the accuracy of the directions, but after owning both TomTom and Garmin devices am disappointed the mid-level Garmin does not provide multiple English language speakers. The computer generated mono-tone female voice which comes as the only option is painful to listen to. Also disappointed Garmin does not allow you to display more info on the main screen such as distance to destination, hrs/mins to destination like the TomTom. I do like how Garmin indicates, when arriving at your destination, whether "on right" or "on left"unlike the TomTom.
What's great about it: Accurate directions; bright screen
