I had used a GPS receiver with a suction mount on the wind shield for years. While it works fine most of the time, temperature differentials between outside and inside, moisture from condensation during rain or cold weather or whatever seemed to cause problems and the suction mount would loose suction occasionally, sometimes frequently. That was annoying.
I was pleasantly surprised how well this Auto Friction mount GPS holder works. I have gone at quite high speed, over potholes, sharp bends nothing can dislodge the the holder. But it can be taken off the top of the dashboard just by picking it up. That is some amazing technology - I wouldn't believe until I saw it work. That is why I rate it as an excellent product. I have two Garmin GPS's. They work fine, but not sure if the mount works with any GPS device.

I can't seem to get these mounts with adhesive on the bottom to stay affixed to my dash. I was hoping this one would have better adhesive but I can't even get it to stick to my windshield.
