Bought this for the looks over other Garmin choices. Had it for over a year now. Was using the GPS on this mount when a car ran a red light and hit me in the rear of the car at over 45mph. I spun180 degrees, slammed into the median, and no kidding, the GPS was still on, and THE MOUNT WAS IN THE SAME PLACE ON THE DASH! DIDN'T MOVE! It was awesome. (Not the car accident, the performance of the mount). All turned out very well (except for the damage to my car :) VERY happy with this purchase. Bottom doesn't get ruined with everyday dust in car. Doesn't ruin dash. Taking it on and off and switching it b/w my and my husband's car doesn't reduce the consistency of the base and the firm planting it does on the dash. VERY happy.

My wife bought me the 3790LMT for Christmas (which is awesome as well, but this is not the review for that), but I didn't like having the windshield mount because it made the GPS difficult to reach for while in the driver's seat, for instance when you need to quickly zoom in. So, we went to the Norwalk Best Buy and saw what they had, the guy there said that the Garmin Dash Mount with the bean bags gets returned quite a bit, but didn't know much about this one, other than he never sees it get returned. So, $43 less 20% was a little much for what it was, but I have to admit, it's fantastic. The dashboard in my Volvo has a hardbreack and slopes down towards the console, so I was doubtful that this would bend and stay in place, and it has yet to budge! Taking a turn with speed, swerving, or gunning it up an on ramp, this things stays put! The way you can bend it to mold it to your dashboard is awesome, and it stays up, even when you detach your GPS, it doesn't try and come with it.
I would highly recommend this dash mount! A little much for what it is, but well worth it! Only wish it was a little smaller, but it's really not that big either.
What's great about it: Function, Style, Effectiveness.
What's not so great: Yet to find anything bad about it.

This "mount" works great for the Garmin GPS unit I purchased (255WT).
You'll need a flat part of your dashboard about the size of a CD, but it can have a few little curves. The heavy base bends and curves into the shape of your dash, and the bottom is made of a soft plastic non-slip surface. So once it is setting in place, its own weight keeps it in place.
You will need to do the shaping with your hands before placing. I was expecting that it would mold into place by placing and pressing - not the case. However, the shaping process was easy and its not going anywhere.
A great alternative to a suction-cup mount, which I just do not like.
What's great about it: Heavy - which is what you want this to be
What's not so great: Light on set-up instructions, but its pretty obvious

It grips dashboard surface very well and can be shaped to accommodate various shapes of the dashboard. The ball joint holds even over-sized unit very steadily. Could have been cheaper... as always. ;) I suspect that some might not like the appearance of the thing, as it is of a "decent" size, but it's a matter of prefference. I focus on usability and in my opinion, for a bigger GPS to be steady, you need a bigger mount like that. I highly recommend it.

Living in CA its against the law to have your GPS mounted on the windshield. I own the first generation Garmin bean bag friction mount. I am quite impressed with the redesign. It's easy to set up, has a low profile, it's easy to store, and all for a great price. If you are looking for a portable friction mount, then look no further.
What's great about it: Improved design, great price, easy to set up, low profile, easy to store

I bought this Garmin friction mount to hold my Garmin Drivesmart 70 LMT (7 inch screen). It was an okay mount but it made me too nervous when I was driving around with it. I was always worried that the Garmin GPS unit was going to fall over especially when I hit bumps or potholes. The whole base would rock side to side a little too much for me to be comfortable with. The base of this Friction mount is weighted and can be shaped to the contours of your dashboard and the bottom of the base has a sticky silicone material to keep the base from sliding off of your dashboard. But to me, the weight of the base isn't heavy enough to stabilize the 7-inch Garmin models. I'm sure it will be fine for the 5 and 6-inch models but for the 7-inch models I would recommend the Garmin Mount that has a beanbag base. See my review on that base.

I own a couple of GPS units and bought one for my daughter. I really like the non-slip dash mounts because of the flexibility to put the GPS wherever you need to given the circumstances of the trip. When you leave the car, it's very simple to pick up the whole thing (GPS and mount) and hide them under the seat. As such, I bought this one for my daughter's new unit. I didn't do my homework and look at it ahead of time. It uses some sort of sticky material to stick to the dash rather than the non-sticky non-slip material found on other mounts. Buy the dash mount without the sticky base. This one picks up any dust/dirt/grime and forget about setting it on the floor unless your car is surgically clean...mine's not.
What's great about it: Stays on the dash, holds the GPS Unit
What's not so great: The base of this mount is really sticky and picks up any dust, grit or grime.

I've had quite of few different things to hold the GPS and I like this one the best by far. A few friends who've seen it also like it and said they want to get one for themself. The GPS snaps right on. It can sit on the dashboard or sometimes I put it on my console and it stays put. It can mold to any location and the rubber bottom keeps the GPS in place. It never falls off and easy to move it from place to place.
What's great about it: It sits great on the dashboard. It doesn't move and can mold to the shape of where ever you put it.
What's not so great: a little dumbersome to store. Not too bad, just a little bit because I keep the piece to hold the GPS in place.

I like the fact that it does not need to be attached to your glass. It stays put for the most part. I really like it. Would recommend for anyone to use
