Rock is still alive and Chickenfoot are here to prove it. The first three songs are love at first listen. Hopefully this is not a one and done endeavor. We need them. American rock music at it's finest!
What's great about it: These songs rock! No cheasy supergroup here. They exceed all expectations!
I would recommend this to a friend!

chickenfoot will be an amazing band.ive been a van halen fan since day 1.sammy,mike,chad,joe are one of the best bands to come along in a long time.they can smoke as a band.and joe is one of the best guitar players out there today.micheal anthony need i say more.and chad smith man that guy plays like john bonham.and sammy is the man.cant wait for the rest of this album and tour dont miss it.
What's great about it: 2 new singles really rock hard
What's not so great: nothing

Finally, some good,straight rock music. The genre has been very stale and boring lately. But this is some good stuff. Chickenfoot is made up of some great musicians. I first heard about them because im a huge Chili Peppers fan and theyre drummer,Chad Smith, is now in Chickenfoot. So i was pretty interested because they had a pretty good line-up. I sampled some of the three tracks(Oh Yeah,Down the Drain,and Soap on a Rope. All on their website.) It was awesome. I am pretty excited to get the album. The guitar ,Joe Satriani, is amazing. The guitar parts are very powerful and heavy. Chad's drumming is amazing. I think this music will definitly be fun and exciting to listen to . I can't wait for the CD to come out. It already sounds great. I would definitely recommend getting this album.
What's great about it: awesome songs
What's not so great: lyrics can be a little better but other than that the music is great
I would recommend this to a friend!

Much hype, but I have no doubt that it will delive

I thought I'd chime in since we've got a Peppers and Van Halen fan who already reviewed this album. I cam to it as a huge Joe Satriani fan. His mastery of the guitar is brilliant, but these songs just launch him 10 stories higher. The depth that a full and proper rock band adds to his music is just a pleasure. It's actually been his lifelong dream to play guitar with a full-on rock band but it never happened until now. As great as they are, I'm almost disappointed go listen to all of Joe's instrumental albums and feel like there's something missing.
So anyway, if you're a Peppers, Van Halen, or Joe Satch fan, you'll love this album. If you're a fan of great rock music, then you'll love this album. I hate to oversell anything, but this is a rare combination of talent and inspiration with an unmistakably remarkable product.
What's great about it: Music & lyrics
What's not so great: that the album isn't out yet, and even when it's out I'll be wanting more

the michael anthony quartet

Michael anthony is a beacon of hope in this world of ho-hum boring rock style music. his astounding bass skills will throw you for a loop, unlike any loop with which you have ever had the pleasure of being thrown for. unfortunately, his sweet, sweet pumping basslines are often drowned out by the hootin' and a-hollerin' of one sam gengar. dear mr hagra, if you read this (and i know you will because i heard you read reviews on best buy dot com), just stop it already please. you're not good. and you're making Mr. Anthony look bad (is that even possible LOL?!?!?!). But yeah, cut it out.
Also, Jim Satranis is alright, and additionally, flea is pretty sick on the percussion section.
What's great about it: Michael Anthony at his finest. plucking those bass strings like nobody's business
What's not so great: sammish hager. i mean lets be honest, he's bad.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Disappointing

Forget about Michael Anthony and Chad Smith. When you put Joe Satriani, one of the greatest guitar players of his generation, and Sammy Hagar, one of the greatest singers with one of the best vocal ranges on the planet, together you expect a landmark album. Unfortunately, Chickenfoot is nothing much more than a collection of some catchy riffs set to Hagar's typical sexy lyric lines.
Throughout the album, I listened to the songs waiting for Satch to breakout into one of his classic, technically proficient, yet soulful extended solos. That never came. What makes this album merely a good album, rather than a great or unique album, is its constant loyalty to the rock-song format. Satch is controlled and never lets loose. This by itself makes the album disappointing.
As for the others, Chad Smith is good but does not have the chops for this style of music and is not as proficient as Alex Van Halen, an obvious comparison. Michael Anthony is solid as always, but there is not enough of his voice, no doubt a conscious effort to separate Chickenfoot's sound from Van Halen's. And as for Sammy, the author and singer of "There's only one way to rock and "Dreams," he simply does not have the range anymore to sing the soaring vocal lines he used to. Instead, you can hear that he has to resort to lower-octave, more bluesy melodies to maintain his voice. I would love to hear Sammy sing a blues album, but that was clearly not the goal of Chickenfoot.
Successful rock supergroups come along rarely. Think of Asia and the ever-changing lineup of King Crimson. Unfortunately, Chickenfoot is not one of them. With less controlled, less rigidly-structured songs and more outside-the-box playing and soloing by Satriani, they could be the next great supergroup. For now, they are another Sammy Hagar solo band with a guitar gunslinger who will not take both of his .44 Magnums out of his holsters at the same time.

I thought this album would have some real promise, with Joe Satriani, who I love, and 2 Van Halen members, but this album is awful. There's none of Joes classic melodic playing, the songs are all uninspired heavy guitar chords, lyrics are terrible, Sammys vocal range is shot, to get an idea of what this album is like, take the worst songs from Van Halen (hagar), remove Eddie and there you'll have it.
What's great about it: not much
What's not so great: sounds like the enitre album was composed and produced in one afternoon
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
