I didn't know if I was going to like this album. But I have to say Diane has an amazing voice and talent. It reminds me of a blues/jazz kind of music. There are a lot of slow mellow songs and some upbeat songs. I like that it has a lot of both. She does have an Alanis feel to her. But yet is very distinctive and unique. If you are on the fence about buying this album, preview some of the songs...they speak for themselves. You won't be disappointed.
What's great about it: Good variety of songs, Amazing voice, Unique sound

Really enjoyed the modern vocals and presentation of jazzy, soulful blues type sound to her songs. She reminds me a lot of Nora Jones, and though I am not normally a jazz or blues fan, I really enjoyed her presentation of the genre and I think that anyone that does in enjoy Diane Krall or Nora Jones will really reall enjoy Diane Birch and her musical talent.

When I first popped in the CD, I was immediately taken to a coffee shop on a lazy Sunday with my laptop or a sudoku book and she was the live entertainment. Her voice is very soothing and the music bluesy, soulful, with a hint of gospel and country...just a hint...probably why she called it Bible Belt, eh? It was the kind of music that I could work to or read to...rock in a hammock to. Background music, if you will...and that is not a negative comment.
Being a music lover, what impressed me most was that I could feel her "realness" for a lack of a better term. Her voice was real and her lyrics from the heart/soul. The music is pure. I can hear each REAL instrument and that is something that is very important to me with this kind of music. I can get down with a synthesized, digitally remastered beat every now and then but sometimes it is just really nice to hear a real piano, a real guitar, real background vocals!! She put me in the frame of mind of wonderful songstresses like Carole King, Carly Simon, and Phoebe Snow.
What's great about it: the lyrics, the realness of the music and mood
What's not so great: just not something I would regularly listen to

Diane Birch's cd "Bible Belt" was a joy to listen to. Diane has a smooth, bluesy vocal reminiscent of old school sounds. I feel comfortable recommending this cd to anyone out there! Check it out, you're sure to love it.

After graciously being given the opportunity to review this CD, I apprehensively played it in the car with 2 small children present. I was not disappointed! What's great about Diane Birch's sound is that it is unique. Each song is refreshingly new with a this soulful, bluesy sound. Fire Escape, the first song on the album opens with a sweet, buttery sound and you get into this mindset of how calm and mellow this music is. But, before you know it, she's belting out tones reminscent of Stevie Nicks (Rewind) and Janis Joplin! (Choo Choo) All in all, a great album worth listening to. I feel that it would please even the most fickle of listeners. Bravo!
