Great but installing software ...

This is my third UPS from APC. It seems harder and harder to find the Powerchute Personal Edition software. Would be nice if it was included or mentioned in the documentation. It would also be nice if the instructions told you to remove the old software, add the new unit and then re-install the software. "Plug-N-PRAY" from Windows at it's best...
Otherwise it is GREAT and performs like a champ!!! I really appreciate the slimmer model vs the previous model.
I will continue to buy.
What's great about it: Love the display on the unit
What's not so great: Software does not play well when replacing an existing unit
I would recommend this to a friend!

Plug and Play for the most part. Works seamlessly with Apple products. I have had several different backups over the years and have a 1500 and 1300 APC currently. Sometimes out of the box these batteries are old. Battery Plus has replacement batteries if you ever need them.
What's great about it: Ease of Operation
What's not so great: Nothing. Does what it's suppose to do

I bought two of these. One worked fine out of the box. The other didn't work when the power went out. I got a replacement from the store and that one had a battery that wouldn't hold a charge. After a very long time on the phone with APS, they sent me a third unit that appears to be working properly. In the end, that's the most important thing, but it sure was a hassle.
What's great about it: Nothing spectacular
What's not so great: Too much trouble to get a working unit
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

IF you need PURE SINEWAVE technology stay away from this product. APC was'nt helpful in figuring this out so do your home work before you buy, even then you can be mislead.
What's great about it: Nothing, flat didn't work
What's not so great: Specs were not clearly available
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Moved to a new home and experienced several power outages. The huge storms were easy to anticipate losing power, but the short outages are unpredictable and causing problems which caused the purchase.
Out of the box easy set up. Cool feature that monitors my iMac for sleep/hibernate and turns off my printers when inactivity occurs - turns everything back on when the computer goes active. Program monitors and shows the power savings. Note: The software does not install on Apple.
The UPS cleans the power (frequency and amplitude), will back up my specific load for 33 minutes, shuts down my devices properly when approaching battery limit, hot swap battery and saves energy too.
Home office running iMac, notebook (runs APC software), HP All in One, HP laser, backup drive, network switch and IP phone.
Highly recommended.
What's great about it: 33 minutes of backup, clean power, saves energy
What's not so great: Utility software not available for Apple OSX
I would recommend this to a friend!

Was purchased with the intent of only using it for the new high-end HP desktop, networking gear and a 19" tube monitor but after all that was plugged in, found it was only using about 1/3 of the total capacity (750W max) and the status screen indicated that more could be added. Now two PC's, one monitor, networking gear, speakers, basically everything at my desk - that's a lot - is connected and it's still only around 1/2 the capacity.
Keep in mind the "up to 140 minutes" is the absolutely best case with very little connected to it. The estimate with my gear shows 14 minutes, still more than enough time to safely power-down if needed. The display on the unit has multiple modes and is extremely helpful. Once the monitoring software is installed, there is a wealth of information as well, including a Self-Test option.
Apparently it has a cooling fan, but rarely runs and very quiet when it does. Read reviews of other products which people said they were very loud so that was a factor in the decision process. The battery is very easy to access and would be user-replaceable with minimal effort. If the price seems a little steep, think of it as an investment in protecting your equipment and what it would cost to replace it. Factor in just how much you can connect to it and then the price tag is more justifiable. Very pleased with it.
What's great about it: Plug and go, handles more load than planned on, has Windows 7 software available, quiet, display has multiple options.
What's not so great: Getting the free monitoring software off the manufacturer site is a little more involved than it needs to be.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I think these are good battery backups, in general, but I lost confidence in this APC 1300VA model after buying one, taking it home and setting it up, and then having it beep constantly, complaining there was no battery installed. I pulled the battery back out, verified it was inserted correctly, and re-installed it. Same problem.
A quick Google search turned up a number of other people with this same issue. When I took it back to my local Best Buy to exchange it, the only other 2 APC 1300VA units on the shelf both looked like their boxes had been opened before and were re-sealed. So I opted to spend the extra $20 and just go with a 1500VA model instead. It works great, so far.
What's great about it: Informative LCD front panel and easy battery installation
What's not so great: Unit arrived with a non-working battery
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I needed a replacement for a non-USB backup power supply that was no longer working. This device was relatively inexpensive for its class. I was impressed how easy the setup was and the monitoring software was extremely intuitive. Since installation, I have noticed that it has taken over three times in 2 weeks (FL is known for its frequent storms and the power is not reliable at times) . I was pleased to see that it even took over when the outage was only 5 seconds. This sure helps with my router which does not handle short surges/outages very well.
What's great about it: Set up, medium price
What's not so great: Nothing
