Satisfied home and business customer

I bought this XS 1500 to replace my old white Back-UPS XS 1500, which I passed down to my kid (with new batteries). The unit installed in a snap, and the instructions were easy to follow. I like the new design and black color, and the LCD screen is an added plus. It has plenty of outlets for all of my needs, cable and phone protection, and the power to handle my upcoming computer upgrade. The Powerchute software is quick and informative. I found APC products to be well built, reliable, quiet, and easy to install and use. I have APC Back-UPS protecting four computers at home, as well as five computers and a server at work. Nothing bad to say about this unit.

Good Unit

This would be a GREAT unit if the power chute software was for a MAC computer. There are settings that you can change with the software a LOT easier then using the front panel. Yes Mac has built in UPS support but there still needs to be a way to change settings on the unit via software.

Not thrilled

I've had the BACK-UPS BX1500G for a few years now, and I suppose that I should be happy that the battery lasted this long. From my perspective, though, this is just yet another in a series of UPSs from APC that don't see hard duty, but wind up failing in what seems to me to be a short period of time.
I rarely have power outages at my house, and I do like the features, power, and look of this UPS. I'm just tired of dealing with replacement batteries for my UPSs from APC.
Maybe it's just me. Instead of getting a replacement, I think I'll try another brand and see if it's just the nature of the battery beast.

Worse Purchase Ever

BEWARE! This unit does not work with all personal computers. My Dell XPS is not compatible with it. I had to wait until the power failed and the UPS didn't work to learn that the unit would not work with my PC. The recommended solution is for me to purchase another APC unit. So don't buy this product or any other unit expecting it to work. The warranty only covers defects in the device. The fact that your PC is not supported is considered your problem.

Poor LCD

I am very disappointed in the view angle of the LCD. UPS is mounted a few feet above the work surface and the LCD is unreadable unless I stand up! I might as well saved some money and purchased units without a display. Also, the AVR only corrects low voltages without using the batteries. Not high and low voltages as advertised (Note: After much complaining, the web site has been corrected to show the correct information). All in all, I am disappointed with the two units I purchased and will more than likely be exchanging them for another major brand!!!

The Back-UPS XS 1500 has some real nice features,

Part of my Application I am using one XS 150 to protecting a Vizio® LCD TV, a DVD player, and a cable box, and a switchable LED light (for emergencies). The other unit I am protecting a Dell Computer, a 22 inch Monitor, HP Officejet Pro printer, Altec Lansing Sound System, and a number of powered USB hubs. My third unit I am protecting another Dell computer, Ethernet router/PBX, and Cable Modem. Compared with my older units (Back-Up SX 1300 and RS 1500), the XS 1500 run a lot cooler. I always worried about leaving SX and RX on when I was away from the house.
On the down side, the power cord may be 6 feet according to the technical specifications but it’s about 1 ½ feet short on the outside of the box. This can be real frustration when your desk is set up in away that XS can’t reach. Normally one would not think or worry about how much wire is on the inside of the UPS box, but I guess APC did. I just see it as a deal breaker for some people that have a long way to go to the wall outlet.
I know some people will not like the way the outlets are setup with less outlets for battery backup and more outlets with just surge protection. But on the other hand, those surge protection outlets can come in handy when you need to plug in something that does not need battery back-up, no more adding power strips to make up for not having outlets on this side of the UPS. I also like the idea of the Power-Saving Master and Controlled outlets. Most of my AV applications can’t use this, but that does not mean I still can’t use it else where.
For my system, The Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) is a must. I would think anyone living out in farm community, or in the city with squirrels, or anyplace you have branches falling on power lines, would be happy with the AVR protecting their computer system. Already in the last month, I can tell the AVR has lowered the count number of battery trigger events compared with my other two models I just wish that all my UPS came with the AVR.
I need to point out, when setting up the XS unit, it really does help to make sure you follow the instructions (picture) in making sure the battery is hooked up right. I made the mistake of not only flipping over the battery, but I flipped over the unit too not thinking about it. Thank God for Pictures, because once I realized how the door had to go back on, I realized I put the battery in wrong.
Also, if your like me and have your AV system hooked up in your bed room, you may really want the LCD Display off when you don’t need it. The instructions were wrong on Page 3, the unit has to be on (like it states on page5), then you hold down the DISPLAY button for 2 seconds, and then it will toggle on or off. I like the display, but I still miss the red display of the other UPSs. Red displays don’t keep you awake at night according to Doctor Oz’s tv show.
