I had one of Epson's early photo printers, the R200. It was a great dependable printer that turned out perfect photos. Lasted 9 trouble free years. I wanted a similar non-all in one printer and settled on the Artisan 50. I am running Vista 64 bit. The included driver didn't take so I had to download an updated one from Epson. That went smoothly. Then the moment of truth. I selected one of my better photo's and clicked PRINT. WOW. Excellent pro looking photo. Now if this printer will just last 9 years like the last one.

Good and Bad

I have had my Epson Artisan 50 for four years and it still functions, barely. It has done well in printing DVD labels for me (which is what I primarily use it for). It loves to waste ink every time it starts, and it often has errors and so has to be restarted - and then wastes more ink. Last year the paper feed mechanism died. I took it for repairs but they couldn't fix it so I can't load paper anymore. Also the colors are no longer accurate even with new ink cartridges. I would not buy this model again, except I can't find another reasonably priced printer that prints inkjet DVD labels.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Have had 4 Epson's prior to this (after using a brand X). The Epson's are awesome for my photography printing, most of which are 8-1/2 x 11. This time I was apprehensive when my R380 gave up the ghost (as all of my Epson's have, hit a point and that's it) that the Artisan 50 would be the same quality in printing detailed photographs...well, rest easy, this printer does it all, I will buy a backup now, in case Epson ceases production...quality, cost, quick delivery...what more can you ask for...
I would recommend this to a friend!

Good basic printer

This printer performed very well for me.
The only problem happened when it was idle for an extended period (about 2 months) and the ink cartridges were left in it. Thr result was a permanent damage-color that couldn't be erased.
I now have an Epson XP-810 that has lots of functions and is a good replacement.
I would recommend this to a friend!

My new Epson Artison 50 Printer

I've only had it a week or so and haven't had the time to play with it that I would like. Initial attempts to print brought mixed results. Some images were perfect others that were from my files were dreadful with harsh overdone chroma. I'm told I can call the tech to get the printer more compatible to my computer colorwise. I hope that is true. Dread explaining it to the tech -- that's usually a pain.

Completed but Delivers

I've had my Ep Artisan 50 for 3.5 years now. I love the DVD/CD printing capability that delivers a pretty good professional like label for my wedding customers. What I find vexing, is the fickleness of operations. Once you get it set up, the printer is steady and reliable. If it hiccups, loses power or needs a new cartridge, then it could be down for hours and could require a few calls to Epson tech support. The tech support are great, but the process is tedious. But, all that said, it's only about 1x a year so for 3.5 years, dozens and dozens of DVD labels of success printed in the Epson Label software, I love this little hummer of a printer. My customers like seeing their wedding photos on their wedding videos. I recommend it for DVD/CD printing. I guess it does well on paper, I just don't use it for paper.
