I use this opportunity to review not just one, but two Epson printers in the hope that this review might influence the current and future manufacture of certain Epson printers. I acquired the Artison 50 because the semi-new Workforce 40 that I purchased a few months ago has failed. The printer itself is a very good product. The Workforce 40 has a design flaw in that the foam template piece that is nested in the bed under which the print head strikes, has a tendency to come loose and pull up rendering the printer useless. In the Artison 50 is appears that a template made of fiber material is in place thus eliminating this problem. I have noticed other less expensive lines of printers that also utilized the foam template cut out in the same position. This is a serious flaw unless that foam piece is very securely held in place over the life of the printer. Anything less than a very strong adhesive used on the foam parts will eventually lead to failure of the part. The better idea is the fiber cut out that is in place in the Artison 50 series of printers. Also, I am not so thrilled with the fact that the Artison requires more color cartridges than the Workforce. Two changes of ink cartridges and I am approaching the cost of buying a new printer.
Otherwise, both printers, the Artison 50 and the Workforce 4 are wonderful pieces of equipment that I would recomment to others.

After my Epson R200 finally quit printing properly (ink pad problems) after 7 years, I decided to order a new Epson.
I decided on the Artisan 50, since I do a majority of my printing on CD/DVD.
I received the printer 2 days after placing order. The setup instructions were very clear and I had the printer running in less than 1 hour. I tested the print quality of the Artisan 50 and was quite amazed at the beautiful prints on my printable DVD disk.
I was so impressed with the quality, I just ordered a 2nd Artisan 50 for my daughter. Her R200 is now 6 years old and her Birthday is coming up in February.

On Epson paper and for my purposes (printing snapshots up to 8" x 10"), this printer works quite well. If I use other brands of paper, the results are good, but not spectacular, though this is true of any printer/paper combo. I've had no problems in over a year of ownership.

I just received my Artisan today,like most of us we do not like to make changes but sometimes we have no other option. Just receiving the printer the installation was easy, 123 etc.The test print was excellent, I would be happy to come back in a few weeks and discuss the printing experiences.

I have had other Epson products but I really like this one for several reasons. The CD/DVD tray no long goes out the back end. The quality of print on the media is excellent for small jobs. The machine is efficient and accurate in its print. The price point is what makes this a great deal!

Epson Artisan 50 Ink Jet Printer

i bought a refurb version, from epson.com.
print is crisp and precise on paper, and one of the few printers that print directly onto a CD-R/DVD-R without having to use labels.
for the money, you absolutely cannot find a better deal on a printer that prints on these types of media.
