After many years of service, I have upgraded my
Epson R220 to the Epson Artisan 50 which I installed
this morning. Installation was easy. I did have to
download and print the "Quick Guide" because it
was not included in the delivered printer.
Otherwise I could not be more pleased with the
operation of the new printer. The printing is much
faster than my previous printer and when I printed
a picture I was most pleased with the results. It is
too early to tell how long the ink supply will last, but
early indications look promising.

I bought this printer just to print CDs only. Very good so far, excellent printing quality of photographs and other designs. Let us see how it does in reference to ink

Great for photos

Got the printer with the ciss system in 24 hours I ran out of ink in the printhead and now the ink light is on and it isn't working, any ideal?

Great Photo Prints

Wow. The colors are true and vivid. It does make a difference what kind of paper you use. Plain paper looks good, but treated paper (satin finish, bright white) looks visibly better.
Borderless printing works well, but you must use good paper. If your paper is slightly curled up on the edge the print head will catch on it and chew up the edge and cause ink smudges.
I have a few minor criticisms of the Photo Print software. Manually laying out a photo is not easy. First, you must bravely ignore a warning that all selected photos will be "deleted". Once you do get past that, selecting a photo for printing is not intuitive. There might have been a couple of predefined frames supplied too. At first it appeared that the frame option was useless, but after I discovered how to create my own frames it was a very nice feature.
I haven't tried printing CDs yet, but if it works as well as the rest it will be great.

Artisan 50 Printer

Used PhotoStylist 870 for 10 years and it still worked great but decided to get a newer printer and individual ink cartridges. Chose Artisan 50 for capability and price. Been using it since January 2011, love it, glad I made the decision to get a new printer. I do not print a lot of photographs but when I do I want bright, crisp, pictures. Printer will be mostly used for emails and documents, so I assume I will have this printer for at least 10 years too.
I would recommend this to a friend!

the Epson Artisan 50 is a tremendous value for the money! The printing on CD & DVD printables is better than ever. The highly vivid colors, faster drying ink, and more efficient ink usage, makes this 'Little Printer That Could' a great deal. If you're not interested in all the latest bells & whistles of Wi-Fi, etc...this is the printer for you. Less bells does not equal reduced quality. I've been an avid fan and user of Epson printing products for several years, and the Epson Artisan 50 has only proved to reinforce my loyalty for Epson products. I use it every single day, and have been thrilled with every usage. Even if I did want Wi-Fi and wireless features, I have no doubt that Epson would be my printer of choice. If you've been skeptical in making a change from a previous competitor, rest assured you won't get more for your money anywhere else.
