Epson Artisan 50 Inkjet printer 4/3/11

I purchased this printer recently hoping it would be as good a photo printer as my older Epson's were..model 960. Yes, it is..It is a wonderful photo printer using ultra premium photo paper or another premium glossy paper. I have another printer for documents etc. This is my photo printer with all of the Epson photo correction and fix software I could ask for. I have used it heavily this week. Exactly what I hoped I was buying...No problems at all..A great choice.

Not just for photos

I'm a digital artist and also do quite a bit of photo restoration. Since I don't charge for my work, I suppose technically I'm not a professional. Print quality and especially color fidelity is very, very important to me. I've begun ordering my large framed prints, so felt I don't need another wide-format printer. But that doesn't mean I can do without an extremely accurate, reliable printer for trial runs and final proofing. After reading a number of reviews and having a lengthy conversation with an Epson salesperson about my needs I decided to take a chance on the Epson Artisan 50, and am very, very pleased.
Frankly the low price worried me. Could I spend so little and still be able to print out non-photo graphics as well as photos with accurate color and fine resolution and detail?
After I got my Artisan 50 I made prints of two new works of digital art. Photomanipulations done in Photoshop Elements using Elements, Topaz and Nik plugin filters. I made a lot of color changes and with one even used a complicated tutorial for creating an effect which looks exactly like a color pencil drawing after cutting, pasting and blending parts of two photos together. The other piece involved using a threshold adjustment layer and textured paint brushes on the layer mask.
Using very little tweaking I printed my pieces from PSE 8 on Epson Ultra Premium Matte Presentation paper.
After examined the final prints under a magnifying glass, comparing them to how they looked on my MacBook Pro's display, was delighted to see the colors were as perfect as the eye could see and the detail clear as a bell.
I really thought I'd need to do a lot of color management to get such good quality. I actually did very little yet got quality which was better than I often got on much more elaborate and expensive printers. I was also a bit worried about color gamut, but the 50 went the whole 9 yards with me. I got lovely, delicate bluish-grays and yellowish-browns to the rose colors used on the second piece without any changes in set-ups. Since I was just testing out the printer for the first time I didn't want to bother. Yet to my very pleasant surprise I got color quality on both pieces which I consider as perfect as I could hope for.
Unless I need a print larger than the Artisan 50 can provide, what I did get is ready for framing right "from the oven."
I'm really glad I've stuck with Epson.

After having used my Epson Stylus Photo 700 for a decade, I decided it was past time to update. My most exacting use for a printer is for digital artwork created largely in Photoshop. I researched other brands as well as Epson, and in the end this relatively inexpensive printer seemed like the best choice for my needs. I was especially swayed by the "Featured Review," and I concur totally. It prints beautifully! The quality and the color are excellent. The only caveat I have is that it makes a rather sharp noise when it loads a sheet of paper, but that doesn't seem to negatively affect anything, other than slightly alarming me until I was assured that nothing was amiss. I'm not really concerned with speed, and haven't used it for printing CDs or DVDs, so I can't comment on that.

I have always had Epson printers and this one is a great printer. Easy set up and easy learning curve. I use it only to print on discs and it does
a great job. Thanks Epson!

The Artisan 50 replaces my stylus 280 which developed mysterious issues. I hope this one lasts longer than the 280. I have only had it for less than week but so far it has done all if its printing tasks
beautifully. I think it is a good value.

I use my printer primarily for printing photos. I am thrilled with the reproduction it looks absolutely so professional. I have tried several other brands of printers and quite simply nothing compares to this Epson. I am definitely recommending to all my friends. Strangely enough Epson was recommended to me so I took a leap of faith and trusted her. I am very glad I did I have nothing negative to say about this product

So far, so good!!

I bought this printer to use at work events. All the photos I took of people, I needed to print out on 4x6 paper and frame them by the end of the night and pass out to those people I took photos of. So I needed something that packed speed and quality. This printer had the best overall reviews from multiple websites, so I thought I'd give it a shot. And for the price, you CAN NOT beat this deal. It held up perfectly and the quality of the photos were fantastic. I have many more events coming up where I'll need this printer, and so far, so good!!! It's easy to set up, the instructions are simple to follow and it's not that bulky or inconvenient. Just be sure you purchase a USB cable, as it does not come with one, which is relatively silly in my opinion.
