Four and a half for this product simply due to price. It is very very expensive for a vacuum. BUT!!! You will be getting the best vacuum in the world. So the choice is a hard one to pull the trigger on but once you do you'll never regret it. The vacuum performs wonderfully.

What's not so great: Doesn't work
The suction on the vacuum cleaner is too strong for the carpets and flooring I have in my home--large area carpets, silk rugs, Flor carpet tiles. I literally can't move it. Therefore, I can not use it. Dyson Customer service is completely unhelpful and told me I had to take it to a local vacuum repair shop. They had the same problem even on the highest, deep pile setting. The vacuum wouldn't budge due to too strong of suction. Dyson would not refund my money or offer an exchange. I bought it at Best Buy and they would not refund my money either. They said if I had bought another brand they could refund my money or offer me an exchange but Dyson had a strict no return or exchange policy. It is also too heavy. The repair shop I took it to said these break regularly and I could see their shop was full of this model. They said it was poorly manufactured and other Dyson models work better. I really can't believe a company like Dyson wouldn't offer me any options so now I am stuck with a useless, 5 month old vacuum cleaner. My new $650 paper weight. Other companies have much better return and/or exchange policies. I would buy a Miele or another brand.

What's great about it: It doesn't suck!
What's not so great: It's pricey!
We have a house FULL of animals! 3 cats and 3 dogs, plus 2 kids.
Our old vacuum was on it's way out, but I gave it one last run before going out to buy the Dyson. I came home and immediately vacuummed the same areas I had just gone over with the old vacuum and the canister filled up in just one room! Looking at the floor before using the Dyson, I wouldn't have thought that much fur and dirt was still in the carpet! This thing is absolutely AWESOME!!
Sure, there's the sticker-shock that goes along with buying a Dyson, but it's got a life-time warranty on it, so you really can't beat it!
Love my Dyson!! :-)

What's great about it: The power and attachments
What's not so great: Dyson;s customer service
I've had several Dyson's for the past 8 years or so. I love the product when it works. The reason I've had several different Dyson's is because after about 2 years, they break. Best Buy replaced one of them since I had the extented warranty but then Dyson's warranty changed to 5 years and I figuered I didnt need to purchase the extended warranty from Best Buy. Once again the vaccuum broke at around 2 years and Dyson WILL NOT stand behind the product. I sent out the vaccuum to be repaired to their recommended repair shops and after 3 attempts, sent it directly to Dyson where it came back in WORSE condition than when I sent it. Now they want to send me a USED one which I declined. If they cannot fix the broken one I sent them, can I be sure they will send me a used one that works??
What's not so great: Hard to push, scratches floor
I have used Dyson products for over 8 years. Have always loved their quality and performance. Until we bought this DC 28. We read many reviews, but I didn't seem to notice anyone mentioning how hard it is to push the machine itself. We have berber carpet in a few of our rooms, and even with the selection on high carpet, it is still difficult to push. When put on the bare floor option, it scratched my floor in a few different places. The suction may be great, but the hassle of maneuvering and the damage to my floors will have me returning this vacuum. It also lifts all area rugs making that a hassle as well. I will definitely get another Dyson - just not this one.

What's great about it: When it works, it does the job
What's not so great: Quality, value for price
I've had the Dyson DC-28 for 15 months now and hope my review will help someone in their decision. Bottom line, for the now $650 price, save your money and buy something else. I was recommended Panasonic or Riccar vacuum (made in USA) for half the price and had it demonstrated. Same suction power, better tools.
I just had the main board and wiring replaced in the DC28. Got it home after 3 weeks to find now that the rear cleanout is not sealing correctly to the base after it was taken apart, resulting in poor suction New parts are being ordered for that and we wait again.
When this vacuum works, it works fine, the suction and cleaning power is no different than $300 models I was shown. The worst part of this vacuum is the attachment hose for use on steps. The vacuum is heavy and the hose is long, too long on steps with walls on each side. We have nearly knocked the vacuum down a couple times due to the bulkiness of it. I just don't see the value for the price of this thing. I read a lot of reviews and researched this before I before I bought it and thought I made a good choice at the time. 15 months later I regret it, mostly from the quality and service side of things. Save your money and look at the choices I listed above. The 3 year warranty is the only saving grace for this thing right now. However, it has become very inconvenient as there is only 1 repair center within 20 miles of my home.

What's great about it: replaced our water vac
better than expected suction on all surfaces. multi tools work great. a very user friendly vacuum.
con Top of the line model does not have the automatic surface selector as the 41 does. manual switching to floor surface selector but not that big of a deal.

What's great about it: Super user friendly and versitile
What's not so great: Haven't found a not so great yet....maybe with time
The Dyson vacuum is what Beverly Cleaver dreams of! This thing makes cleaning a snap! My husband and I both actually enjoy using it so our home has never been cleaner. We've fought over who gets to use it. All the attachments work excellently with amazing suction power. It pulls deep down dirt so you know your carpets are truly clean. The hard floor attachment is great on vinyl floors too. No filters to replace, bags to buy, and extremely easy mess free clean-up.

What's great about it: The suction.
What's not so great: The hose attachment.
After killing 3 cheaper vacuum's in 1 1/2 years I decided to go all out and purchase the Dyson, and I am so happy I did!! I have 3 dogs with long hair and live in an older house with tons of dust that hides from me when I dust, so no matter what it's there. This vacuum has done wonders for our house! The amount of hair and dust that gets picked up everytime we vacuum is just unbelievable! I have yet to have a problem with suction loss and I am just in awe everytime I use it. The only feature that is not my favorite is the way the attachment comes off of the main vacuum to use the hose. I think they could have designed that just a little bit better to make it easier, but all around, it doesnt matter when I am getting the results I am getting! Would recomment this to everyone!

I've had the original yellow Dyson for about 8 years and it still works like the day we took it out of the box. My husband needed a vacuum for his office, so he took that one and I replaced it with this model for our home. This thing is great and lives up to the Dyson name! We have two cats and it really picks up everything well, dust, dander, kitty litter, etc. I'm still amazed at what it picks up even if I just vacuum a few rooms that have been vacuumed just a few days before.
It's not too heavy, I can easily carry it upstairs. The attachments are nice too. I especially like how you can clean the filter yourself and that parts are available for replacement if necessary. I had to replace the extension hose on my last one and it only cost about $35 and it was easy to do myself.

What's great about it: great suction, functional features,
Purchased for my home cleaning business and realized that i was missing a lot of debris with my other vacuum. This vacuum picks up not only dirt but fine dust out of very thick carpets and customers notice the difference. The wand with long extending hose is great for stairs and other hard to reach places such as light ceiling fans and heating systems. 30 ft. cords allow you to move freely without moving plug.

What's great about it: Suction is excellent
What's not so great: heavy and not real agile
Purchased at Christmas for my wife who's been begging for one for 3 years now. Paid $560ish for it. Within a couple hours of usage the thing started making a noise which sounded like something loose banging around. Took back to Best Buy and they gave us a new one. Dyson is supposed to be the elite vacuum cleaner and to have problems out of the box leaves me highly skeptical. Only time will tell the true tale if this was worth the money or not.

What's great about it: Advertising
What's not so great: Broke after 2 weeks
Only had it for 3 weeks. It stopped working, brush stopped working and would not pick up anything. Called we did the routine of checking it out but no go... they will send a new one. They paid for the return shipping.
No light, but if picks up the dog fur that will be great. Easy to clean out canister.
Not sure if we like it yet.

We have 3 Saint Bernards, 2 cats and a terrier mix; needless to say it can get pretty HAIRY! We were burdened with hair everywhere but the Dyson Animal is easy to use and great at getting the hair, dust and dander all sucked up. We dump it frequently and the only thing I wish is that the hair wouldn't wind up around the roller so fast! If only it didn't get stuck there! No worries! It is wonderful and well worth the cost (plus I got it on sale and used my reward points for a gift certificate towards its purchase!).

What's great about it: Suction Power, Removed Pet Hair
I was totally grossed out by the amount of pet hair, dust and god knows what else came out of my carpet after one use of this vacuum. I was reluctant to spend the $ but figured this would be an investment--sure paid off! I was shocked to see how powerful the suction on this machine was. I had vacuumed my living room a few hours before making this purchase, when I used the Dyson later in the day I could not believe what I saw!
This machine was easy to assemble (took about 10 minutes). I like the many features of the vaccum, including the long cord and hose. I used a few different settings and each worked just fine.
We have a beagle who sheds A LOT and this really did the trick! At this point, I have no concerns or complaints!
