What's great about it: Very solid router that measurably increases the performance of a home network
What's not so great: 5GHz band sounds great in the description but really is not necessary
This is a great router. As with all Netgear products it is incredibly easy to set up. I had it up and running within 15 minutes. I really liked the idea of the 2.4GHz and 5GHz channels running at the same time to increase the overall wireless transfer speeds. I have a wireless G Mac and looked around for usb adapters that could give me that dual-band functionality. It turns out that they can connect on one band at a time. Netgear sells a usb adapter that can run on both bands simultaneously but it is only for PC's. Just keep this in mind if you are trying to upgrade an older Mac. Otherwise the speeds are impressive. As part of purchasing the router I upgraded my home network to gigabit and it is an amazing speed increase. I have an NAS so the upgrade was necessary in order to achieve the maximum file transfer speeds.
Overall you can't go wrong with this router. Just consider purchasing a less expensive Netgear wireless N router that doesn't have the 5GHz band because you will probably find that you do not need it.

What's great about it: Good price point for a dual-band wireless router
What's not so great: Weak signal strength through walls and rooms
Was looking to replace a 2-year old Linksys WRT160N with a router with more range and bandwidth. This Netgear router was recommended by the store rep, decently priced and installed easily.
In the proximity of the router the signal strength was good and steady but in rooms away from the router (through one or two walls) the signal was spotty and kept dropping away. After several days of unexpected mid-conversation breaks (Skype, Microsoft OCS) and spotty internet connections, switched back to the good old Linksys and reluctantly returned the Netgear to the store.

What's great about it: good wifi range, easy to install & set up, reasonable price
What's not so great: needs cloud access features
The NETGEAR RangeMax Dual-Band Wireless-N Router is a very good value for small office/home office applications. Fairly easy to install, it has more than enough throughput for streamed video (netflix, MLB) and interactive video (Skype) usages.

What's great about it: Signal Strength
What's not so great: none yet
We have a 7000sq ft home 3 levels and we have never been able to get the signal threw out the house until now. Speeds are great we use to have linysx router and it worked ok but never let us get internet on the 3rd level of our home. Now we do I wish we would of bought this sooner. Very easy to install basically plug and go.

What's great about it: Easy to set up, good features compared to other brands.
What's not so great: Dual band requires separate/additional adapters for optimal performance.
Last router (802.11g) bit the dust so needed a replacement. Chose this over the other brand at the same price point because of some features the other didn't have, like the built-in USB port for direct USB hard drive access (though it requires FAT32 format so no really big drives). I haven't actually used that feature yet so can't comment, but the router itself is fast and reliable. The setup is easy for anyone who's set up a home wi-fi network before. My new laptop (Feb. '12) does have 802.11n but only on 2.4GHz band, no 5GHz here. For maximum performance I'd have to buy a separate adapter to get the full dual-band experience. I'm not in a hurry to do that though.

What's not so great: Wireless difficult with Windows XP
Overall router is OK however, I had difficulty in connecting with wireless to computers using Windows XP and after customer support I did not like how I had to reset my router settings. I also do not think the dual band is worth it unless you have a real use.

What's great about it: Nothing
What's not so great: Broke 2 months outside of the free support
Setup and all that was pretty straightforward, but we left the office on Friday and came back on Monday (approximately 5 months after buying) and all it has is an amber light - no connection. Power cycling and hard reset do nothing. First support person (you will not be speaking to someone who has English as a first language FYI) tried to sell me extended support since only the first 90 days is free. They then passed me on to a second person who hung up. Third person (when I called back) spent a frickin hour talking me through all the things I had already done and then agreed to do a return. Never got an email to return the product but now I am registered to their useless website and newsletter.
Before buying this, take a look at the website and consider the nightmare you will have when you try to return it 5 months after you buy it, and consider another option. I bought a Cisco router for home use around the same time and that thing is purring along still.
Just a completely sucky product experience really - Netgear is embracing the kind of customer support that guarantees it will not be around in 5 years!

What's great about it: When it did work it was fast and great.
What's not so great: It decided not to work with my modem....the same modem it woked flawlessly with for the first 96 days!
This thing was a 5 star untill 6 days after the 90 day warranty ended. At that time it decided it wasn't compatible with my modem anymore. Or at least that's what customer service said...Now to help me they want to charge 39.99 to give my router an update!?!. I wasted 100 bucks already I don't want to waste another $40 now only to wonder if i'll have to pay that again later....with that said I'll just buy another brand.

What's great about it: Everything - I prefer Netgear to other the other brands based on experience
What's not so great: The stand, I wish it just had two legs rather than the entire back plate -need to look at the lights straight on
Replaced a 245 with a bad power supply. I like the 4 giga ports for wired connections and I'm getting strong signals throughout the house with the router stored in the basesment. Everything I have is either g or n and all connect at the highest speeds possible.

What's great about it: Streams HD video very well. Great for Netflix
What's not so great: My ISP sent me email saying I am a data Hog
I would say stop searching and buy this one. If you insist on searching further, you should compare the data transfer rate of this router to any other router. Don't forget the USB port for hooking up your external hard drive. I am no expert but my internet provider says I use twice the normal data in a month as other average users. I told them I thought I was just enjoying their high speed service. I am no expert but compare all you want. This one seems great to me. We can have many devices on net at once with no issues. We also have internet phone service sharing our connection too. I also am able to stream HD video 100 ft away in my shop. Works great! Don't forget to adjust the range settings to get maximum range and speed.

What's great about it: Easy set up, long distance.
What's not so great: The lights cant be dimmed down.
I ve had this router for nearly 3 years now and I ve had no problems whatsoever. The installation is so easy a caveman can do it....really. I have 3 pcs, an xbox 360, wii, 3 smartphone, a tablet, two internet HDTV all connected to this router. No lag at all with Time Warner Cable 7 Mbps with Turbo Boost. Most router at the price rang of $100-$180 have 6 antennas where this router has 8. I have a normal sized 3 bedroom house with the router at the far back room of the house. I can take my laptop to the front of the house and across the street over 110 ft and still be connected and a slow speed.
Overall this is a top line router.
