High price for low-end point and shoot performance
on May 30, 2009

I just bought this camera as a replacement for my Canon SX100 which I was very satisfied with. The SX200 according to its specs and features should be able to outperform a two year old camera of the same series and it was actually significantly worse. The low light performance on the SX200 is terrible for its price range. The buttons are tiny and anyone with adult fingers will have trouble doing simple functions. The scroll wheel is actually smaller than a dime and has five commonly used buttons inside it. The flash pops out every time the camera is powered on which isn't a problem but it is annoying because there is nowhere else to hold the camera. The SX200 is an entry level point and shoot that was redesigned with a big lens
Pros: Nice features/settings
Cons: Difficult to use, Poor image quality, Poor Low-Light Performance
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

High Hopes, but Returning Camera
on April 17, 2009

Nice picture quality and features. However, the battery life was short and the zoom is limited to digital and does not focus well in movie mode. LCD was disappointing in outside sunlight. Please Canon fix these shortcomings and I will repurchase.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, excellent image quality
Cons: Short battery life, no optical zoom in movie mode
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Best powershot

I bought this SX200 because of the 12X zoom before my travel to Europe & Asia with some reluctance, since I already have 2 more Canon cameras. One is an SLR, a little too big for travel & the 2nd is an SD 1100, great size for travel. My 1st few pictures turned out fantastic, I love the zoom, so easy to focus on the faces. I also use wide angle for landscape, could not be happier...
The only problem I have is the strap, it is too long, but worse of all, there is no "lock", a little ball that glides along the strap to tighten on to your wrist. I dropped my camera with the lens open on the street, resulting in a bent lens, what a drama, no more camera for my trip.
I am upset at Canon for not providing the lock.
Overall, this is the best little camera I have owned the last 20 years.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

I bought this camera a week ago because I want to have a camera that can be with me all the time. I can say this camera is what I expected. The manual option gives me freedom to shoot as I wish. One think that annoying me is the pop up flash. I try to live with this problem.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable
Cons: pop up flash

This camera has everything down in a small sleek package. An AMAZING 12x lens paired with IS makes it a good performer. The manual features were a great add on. I could go from close macro to 327mm for faraway objects almost instantly. Loved the flexibility this allowed !
Pros: Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, easy to use, amazing lense, great value, great image quality, awesome lense, amaazing performance
Cons: Poor Low-Light Performance, Flimsy Construction

Good Quality Compact Camera

I just recently purchased the SX200IS after having an EOS Rebel XS1. I chose the SX200 because it was smaller, and much easier to use on a regular basis. The SX200 has an equivalent zoom range as the EOS, utilizing the internal zoom lens, superior color display, remarkable clarity, and excellent flexibility in choosing settings. The learning curve is equivalent to learning to use the EOS style cameras, but once you get a handle on it, the SX200 provides extensive possibilities for superior photography. I found the auto pop-up flash a bit of a nuisance as it gets in the way when trying to hang on to the camera. The battery does not hold its charge for even a reasonable length of time, so it is important to have a spare. I am also having a challenge finding a carry bag that will hold the camera, battery, and mini tripod, as well as a neck strap to secure the camera. The slot to hold the strap is quite small in order to find a clip on style strap.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu
Cons: Short battery life

Great Pics, Hard to Use

I love the quality of pictures this camera takes and the features it has is excellent. The user friendliness of this camera is not so easy though. It takes a while to be able to find all the features and how to use them. By using a scroll system makes it difficult. By the time I find the setting I want to use, especially when taking pictures of my children, the photo opportunity is over and the kids are off doing something else. I love the setting that you can isolate a color in a picture and the rest can be black & white but getting the right color in the picture is impossible to find most of the time. Would recommend this camera for great picture quality but if you plan to use many of the different settings I would do more research for a more user friendly version.

I love to travel and enjoy photographing the places I visit. I don't expect professional quality pcitures - I also do not want to lug tons of equipment or spend hours setting up for a shot. I want a point and shoot with a few extras that let me take a better shot.
This camera is perfect for me - a zoom that lets me get the shots I want while traveling, and a point and shoot to catch the moments in my family's life.
I've not had it long but I am impressed so far - including great shots of a family outing, some in my garden, and a beautiful shot of my 88 year old mother's smile.
Pros: easy to use, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: Poor Low-Light Performance, blurry macros
I would recommend this to a friend!
