One of the smallest digital cameras with 12 X optical zoom. Good picture quality.
I so wish it had an optical viewfinder so that I could see what I'm shooting in sunlight; the LCD, although comparable to others, just doesn't cut it in bright light.
video with zoom is very very blurry. Just assume that this camera can only shoot video without zoom.
Pros: Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, 12 x zoom
Cons: Short battery life, no optical viewfinder, video with zoom very blurry, lcd no easily readable in strong sunlight
I would recommend this to a friend!

I just purchased my third canon camera. Overall I have loved all my canon cameras and been upgrading since. Was so excited to start using my camera. I usually shoot always with my flash on and found it lag a few seconds before shooting the picture. However, the high 3200 iso was a fantastic feature during graduation when the lights were dimmed and my subject was far away. The zoom was excellent. I am disappointed on one thing on the camera- the location of the flash and that it always pops up when turned on. I have to get used to not having my finger on the top left hand of the camera. I gave the camera to my husband to take a picture and had to instruct him not to put his finger on the top left hand area of the body. He agreed that there is definitely a design flaw in that aspect. Overall, i am still learning how to use the camera. I went to an evening function but was not happy with the pics I took. It was the same as my previous canon and I was really looking for a small camera to take better night pics like at a wedding. Will keep practicing.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: flash on finger where you hold camera

OK camera, but will return it.

What initially caught my attention from this camera is that it has a wider angle lens (28mm as opposed to the traditional 35mm). After owning it for 3 weeks, I will return it because of all the cons I listed above.
I don't know why Canon designs a camera without an easy grip. Why not constructs the camera with a little L shape, sort of like the A720IS with a nice grip.
I dislike the LCD resolution which only contains 230,000 pixels which are low for a 3 inch LCD. That make it so difficult to see in the sunlight when it does NOT have a view finder. A previous reviewer noted that no other camera has a viewfinder, but that's exactly why Canon should make one with a view finder so Canon can stand out from the crowd.
Pros: easy to use, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: Missing features/settings, no aa batteries option, no optical zoom in movie mode, low lcd resolution for a 3" display., no easy grip on the camera.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

If you are more of an advanced user that uses SLR but wanted to use a point-and-shoot that will still give you the option to manually control the camera, this camera pretty much does the job.
However I did found it had a bit of trouble focusing on some item that my old little ELF had no issue on focusing. Not sure why.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality
Cons: Short battery life

Bad Video under zoom

When you zoom video - the HD video gets really blurred, you can hardly see anything properly. (maximum zoom on video is x4, but i end up not using the zoom.
Cons: poor video under zoom

Low Battery Life/Bad Construction

I was waiting for the camera ever since announcement of the camera. I purchased for my vacation. The camera felt so flimsy and slippery that I almost drop the camera many times, low battery life, the strap was not durable as the other ones used on the other Canon cameras. I find the popup flash was annoying. The only good thing about the camera is the quality of the pictures and the big optical zoom
Pros: easy to use, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality
Cons: Missing features/settings, Poor Low-Light Performance, Heavy/Bulky, Short battery life, Flimsy Construction, bad battery life
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
