Awesome Digital Camera
on August 2, 2009

I can't say enough good things about this camera, the zoom is amazing! I recently went to Africa and was able to zoom in on animals over 500 feet away and they look like they are close up & crystal clear! Great image stabilization! Video--you can zoom in & out while shooting video! I couldn't do that with my last digital camera! High Definition pictures---get a good memory card the pictures are amazing that this camera takes! My only complaint would be sunsets...don't get me wrong the color is AMAZING, and it truly matches what you see in the sky if not making it even better...but, a few (not all) of my sunsets--the sun instead of being the nice orange it was it was almost white surrounded by the rest of the beautiful colors of the sunset? I even used the sunset setting? Maybe I have more to learn--could be operator error! All other pictures I am more than happy with, beautiful! Amazing camera, exceeded my expectations!!!!!!
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, durable, excellent image stabilization, can zoom in and out while shooting movies!!!

Awesome All-In-One with a Few Flaws
on August 14, 2009

This camera simply has a ton of really advanced features packed into a small body. It's typical Canon quality with a couple of annoying exceptions. The metal body, lens, lcd, etc... are fantastic. The 12x optical zoom and HD video recording are awesome... all in one tiny machine.
There are a few glaring problems which irritate me, but not enough to give up the camera.
- Both access doors: the battery one and the usb one are too flimsy... should also be metal and don't match the rest of the camera. The battery one is particularly annoying because there is no lock on it and it comes open when you pull the camera out for use.
- The flip up flash is fine, but it's in an annoying spot, right where you are trying to grab the camera.
All in all, this is a fantastic camera and, combined with it's video capabilities, impossible to beat and well worth putting up with the couple of small annoyances.
Pros: easy to use, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: Flimsy Construction

Love it!

I did a study abroad last semester in Rome, and wanted a small camera that I could take with me every day both to classes and for when I traveled. This camera worked absolutely perfect! It takes great shots at all times of day, has excellent zoom, its really easy to change all the settings to fit your needs. It has all the power of a big thousand dollar camera, but in a small package.
I debated for awhile over purchasing this camera (bought it when it first came out, and couldn't find it in stores anywhere to test it out) but truly am so glad that I did. Yes the flash opens automatically, but I don't understand how that is a concern for anyone considering you can still turn it off, and you cannot zoom once you have started recording a video and have to zoom before, but if you want a video camera buy a video camera! Am going on another trip this summer to Paris, and can't wait to see the photos that this camera produces!
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

Great Camera

I have had this camera for almost 2 years. I also have a Canon 40D SLR. There are many times when I do not want to carry the larger and heavier camera and the assorted lenses. I have been extremely impressed with the quality, and performance of the SX200is. The optics are very good. The features available on this point and shoot rival those of the big brother 40D. The battery charge lasts a long time. All in all, this is the perfect camera for a novice to learn digital photography. As a semi-professional photographer for 30 years, I am very pleased with it when I need a smaller camera.
Pros: superior image quality, size and weight, iso range, long battery life, multitude of features
Cons: pop -up flash can be annoying

Exactly what I was looking for

I was looking for a long range zoom and this camera gives me that. I also was looking for a macro that gave me clear crisp close-ups, and this camera gives me that and more. I like the menu selections ease of use. The pop-up flash is something I could do without but after using the camera, I am aware of it so I just work around it. This is my 4th P/S camera and by far it outshines the other 3, of course, they were of the older variety but I find the picture quality with this camera very good. I also like the camera construction, solid. Would highly recommend this unit.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable, great macro, great zoom, solid construction
Cons: Poor Low-Light Performance, pop-up flash

I have no Regrets

I already have an SLR, but was looking for something smaller for situations that were hard to carry a large camera. I did a lot of research on point and shoot cameras and this sounded like the best. I wanted something that had at least close picture quality to my SLR. I have to say I am impressed. It takes great pictures. It is easy to use and has a ton of settings for different situations. I have been very pleased.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: a little pricey

Hiking and flower camera
on January 15, 2010

I acquired an SX200 around April of 09 and used it that spring and summer for all my picture taking needs. I went on many hiking trips, took many pictures of vistas, flowers, people, and animals. The camera works very well. Favorite features: 1) super macro allows me to take shots of flowers or whatever at point-blank range...all I have to do is make sure light gets in around the lense 2)12x zoom makes far away things much closer; it allows the pictures I take to look as close as how they do with my unaided eyes. Good things: -the scroll wheel allows me to look through my photos much faster than pressing a button with each move -the LCD is great. Bright sunlight is not a problem -it's small and lightweight, good for hiking -photos are good quality, just what I expected from Canon -many manual features are available; they can be used or ignored, and beginners can learn a little at a time if they like Bad things: -has a hard time taking good pictures in low light -cost is a bit high All in all, I like this camera, and it works beautifully for my needs. Looking for a camera? Buy an SX200 today.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, supermacro!, great zoom
Cons: Poor Low-Light Performance

A Pocket Prosumer Marvel

The Canon SX-200 is a 12MP, 12x Zoom Lensed, consumer camera with several pro like features. The long zoom, low light capability (ISO 3200), 10 second timer, full Manual control, spot metering capability, slow synchro mode, flash exposure compensation, and close macro focus (0.8") capability, make this camera suitable for a host of professional applications. At the same time, it's:variety of auto exposure modes, auto focus capability, i-contrast feature, movie mode, face detection, AF Lock, FE Lock, Blink detection, and such, make the camera great for amateur snapshooters. This is a camera that the beginner can start with, and stay with as his/her photo skills grow.
Using the ISO 3200 setting in the Special Scene Mode, I got some nice barely lit street scenes at midnight with this camera. It excelled in daylight, too. ISO settings range from 80 to 3200. With the slow shutter speeds available, and the high ISOs, the camera performs great even with a medium aperture which only goes as low as f/8. I would have preferred a smaller minimum aperture (f/16, or so), and an accessory hot shoe for an add on flash, and the use of AA batteries for power, rather than the NB-5L batteries it does use. Even so, the camera is great, and fits in the breast pocket of my dress shirt. It is small, and light, enough to fit in your pocket/purse, and so go anywhere. I highly recommend it, and have done so repeatedly.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
