A miracle has happened! I programmed a remote control that controls everything on our home theater system! it's a Logitech Harmony 700 from best buy on sale for $135 bucks and it even works the karaoke and PC inputs. Logitech's website will tell you which remotes will support your systems components, before you buy. ( see link below) The buttons are the remote are right were they should be, it's very economical and very intuitive. when you pick up the remote to look at it the back-lite automatically comes on, Wooo!, and once's it's programmed, the keys will be set to work the active device, such as your satellite, or DVD , blueray, etc. etc.. etc...!!!! One button press turns on and switches all the video and audio inputs to the desired function! If it doesn't, then you hit the "HELP" key on the remote, and follow the easy prompts, such as is the TV ON, Is the input set to DVD? etc.. You dont have to have knowledge of how the components have been connected. Your 65 year old mother will be able to handle it!!! Now it's smart and remembers what you just did to it , and next time it will work on the fly! You program the remote, via your PC's using the USB cable plugged into the remote, The process is very fluent, just follow the prompts to get the basic functions working, However you can spend a lot of time to customize the remote. It can learn any missing key functions from your old remotes. It's incredible, Way to go Logitech! Way awesome!!! My 30 year Quest to find a remote that works everything has Ended, I would be happy with just that, but the one button press to set all the devices to the desired activity and just automatically work, was way over the top, and I cannot express how excited I am about this remote!!! Way to go logiTech!!! :-)
P.S. Once you've purchased the remote, you will install the software on you pc, which will take you to logitech's website to create a free account that will keep your remotes setup.
What's great about it: Works all my deviice, Logitech's website will Confirm this before you buy.
What's not so great: No CON's, except I just bought the remote, so i dont know about durability.

I bought this to replace a Harmony 880. While the 700 works fine, it feels like a step backwards from the 880. I think Logitech dropped the ball, as there really isn't a model between the 700 and the Harmony One, which the 880 used to fill.
THE GOOD: From a functional standpoint, this remote is fine. The remote was easy to configure using the software, and has programmable buttons within each activity that allow you to nearly infinitely program this to fit your needs. The profile of this remote fits in your hand, and isn't prone to sliding off furniture like the 880 did. One of the features carried over from the 880 is an automatic backlight, which senses movement and lights up the screen when you pick up the remote.
THE BAD: The 700 only supports 6 devices, period. When configuring this remote with the Logitech software, you can only have 6 devices in your device list, even if you don't use all six for each function.
The screen is smaller than my 880. While this isn't a huge issue, it means I have less programmable buttons, requiring me to scroll endlessly to find the action I want.
Also, there is no battery indicator on this remote, so you don't know your battery life remaining until it warns you the battery is almost dead.
THE VERDICT: Dollar for dollar, I think this remote is your best bet!
If you don't need support for more than 6 devices, and you don't want to spend twice as much for a "slightly" more advanced Harmony One, then this is the remote for you.
I would also recommend this over the 650 for two reasons: 1) supports more devices; 2) includes rechargeable battery
What's great about it: Easy to configure, good price
What's not so great: No battery indicator, have to scroll endlessly for programmable actions

Purchased the Harmony 700 to replace my broken Harmony 650. The interface and button layout is exactly the same as my 650 but this remote has three huge advantages. It can control 8 Devices up from 5 on my 650 (now I can control my XBOX One!), Rechargeable batteries, and a better LCD Screen. It always annoyed me that I had to look directly at the screen on my 650. With the 700 this is solved! Off angle viewing is excellent and it appears to me that the pixel count has also been increased. If you are in the market for a new Universal remote I can safely say the Harmony 700 is well worth the the premium over the harmony 650.

Love the ability to control all devices via one remote...should have done this a long time ago. I had Geek Squad set it up for me, no issues so far. Really like the "idiot" button (help) which always figures out a problem when a component does not seem to be working. The only issue is that it won't transmit through the frosted glass doors of the entertainment system...I have to open the doors. The solution is the RF version of this remove, but that costs 3x as much.
What's great about it: Easy set up, long battery life, compact
What's not so great: Won't transmit through my frosted glass doors on the entertainment center

Logitech has been working hard on making their Harmony software more user friendly.
The new program lacks some advanced features for power users but it gets the basics down correctly. Before you even start get out a notepad and write down all the devices that you will be programming into the remote.
For example. TV - Samsung UNEH53000 HDMI 1 is connected to HDMI in 2 on AVR AVR - Yamaha A2000 HDMI 2 is connected to TV
The more you properly prepare, the better the remote will be. It takes time to fine tune the settings, but your patience is worth the time. I only buy Logitech remotes because they always work.

After purchasing this remote I did find it very easy to setup. It was working great for several weeks then all of the sudden I could not get to the guide or change the channel. The remote acted like it forgot all of the devices I had. I pulled the batteries and tried again and nothing. Had to get out all of the old remotes to manually use my tv, cable box and home theater system. I then tried reinstalling the software on the remote, I also had an update on the remote and applied that. Still could not get the remote to work. The next day I decided to try the remote and it worked. Then several days later it stopped working. Then magically it works again. And the story goes on. One day the remote will feel like not working and then another day it decides it wants to work. I also tried the onscreen menu on the remote to try to fix the problem and sometimes it worked and sometimes it did not. Very irritating!!
So now I must keep the old remotes handy for when the logitech decides it does not feel like working.
What's great about it: Easy to setup. Simple to turn on all devices.

Love this remote, just hope it lasts longer. I bought the same remote three years ago and it abruptly quite working one day. Called Logitech and walked thru some trouble shooting despite a massive language barrier they were completely unhelpful and told me there was nothing to do except replace the remote.

Overall the remote works well for simple functions like turning on TV and surround sound. The remote struggles quite a bit with networked activities through the TV. On the good side Netflix works well but when using screen share for pictures or sport tracking apps the remote doesn't accurately replicate scroll or directional movement function.
