I have been looking for a portable HD radio for quite some time. I found a JVC model in the store, however it required a special antenna and did not stock it. After returning the JVC unit I found this model on line and purchased it. It uses the head phone cable as an antenna just like portable FM radios do. The reception is good I live 60 miles from Houston and can pick up a couple of HD Stations. It does receive standard FM radio if no HD is available.
What's great about it: No external antenna required
What's not so great: Display hard to read outside

I bought 2 of these radios on line and saved $10 on each radio and picked them up at my local store. The reception was clear and the stations were strong for being in a car on an interstate and I did not have to change stations all the time like most systems. I would not have a problem in giving this system as a gift.
What's great about it: I used this radio on the highway while driving up Interstate 95 from Florida to Pa and the reception was great
What's not so great: If you push the buttons to fast the radio locks up

This compact HD radio is perfect for those on the go. However, the reception is not that great indoors. Immediately upgrade the earbuds. The ones that come with it are uncomfortable. All in all, it serves its purpose well. I have no regrets about making this purchase.

This HD radio offers good value for the price! Good receiption, relatively easy to understand controls, and comes bundled with a arm band strap for use on the go. The only downsides would be the lightweight plastic case that seems to be somewhat cheaply constructed. But for the price that is to be expected. Overall goood designed when used as intended.

This is my second radio from Insignia. The battery in the old one finally died after 2 years. The new model is bigger than the one in the picture. I don't know why they felt the need to rearrange the buttons but at least the display is the same. Unfortunately they got rid of the MUTE function that I used all the time when coworkers talk to me or the phone rings.

I've used this for almost a year now, and it worked really well up until last week when the menu screen failed. It just went black. The radio still works fine, but I have to flounder a bit to find the stations I want, with no menu feedback to tell me where I am.
I also find the buttons difficult to use, and have to sometimes hit them 2-3 times to get a reaction. The way they are recessed makes it hard to tell if I have really pressed them or not.
Still, I like the radio and wish there were more HD radios to choose from. I'll probably buy another if they ever go on sale!
I would recommend this to a friend WITH CAVEATS.

We bought this for my daughter for Christmas. Just perfect for her. But we noticed that she did keep her ear phones on when she listened to the music. That was because the volume button was stuck on the loudest setting it could go. IT was too loud for her. So we went to BEST BUY and exchanged it for a new one. So far the new one works great!
What's great about it: This is just perfect for my daughter, who is 12 years old
What's not so great: Had to be returned, the volume controll would not work...
