Great little radio!

on November 26, 2009

This is a fun product. The screen is bright and colorful. Reception is fine for my area. I am getting the WAMU Bluegrass channel in DC from my basement in Arlington VA without a hitch. Tone is satisfactory to me with earphones, and better when I hook it up to the Aux input of my receiver. Could use more presets, but despite what an earlier review said, I am able to set them to channel two or three of a station as well as the prime channel. (I don't know why some are complaining about presets and sensitivity, maybe a quality control issue.) Feels solid, but noting prior reviews I took the two year warranty at $10 extra. For a Bluegrass fan in the DC area this radio is a winner.
What's great about it: Sensitivity, tone, price, everything works.
What's not so great: Don't know about battery life yet, can't run it while charging, only 10 presets

Great stocking stuffer

I have a satelite radio and decided to try a HD portable radio. I have a regular HD radio and this is BETTER than the satelite radio. It is free and you get all of the HD channels. Sometimes certain channels lose reception, but if you have a HD radio, you understand this. The radio is a great gift at a affordable price.
What's great about it: Very comparable to a satelite radio, but affordable. Great match
What's not so great: Some channels fade away and lose signal.

The sound and quality are good, but I can't get reception inside the gym. I've also had to reset it twice and I've only had it a month.
What's great about it: Good value for price
What's not so great: I've had to reset it twice in about a month

Writing this info's for future buyers i was looking for and did not find. Battery charging for 1st time takes 2 hrs for fully charge. Dissapointed because don't have AM tuner (Noise on AM prefered to have on HD taken away FM don't have this problem )would prefere AM to a clear sound on HD. Good Sound performance but dissapointed for no having AM tuner.
What's great about it: Quality sound, portable
What's not so great: No AM tuner

Good unit if there is HD radio in the area

I live in San Jose and work in San Francisco. I take the train to work everyday and can literally hear the reception turn to digital at a certain point in my train ride every morning. It makes a world of difference and sounds absolutely amazing. When I am in San Jose, it sounds like a standard FM radio with nothing special. But when you find that HD signal it is great.
The battery life lasts about a week for me, using it two hours a day.

Affordable Radio Just Like The DTV Converter Boxes

on February 4, 2010

I got mine and setup was very easy to do. I plugged in the digital radio into my computer to charge it up, then I wanted to try it out. It was great sounding. To prove it, the local station sounds CD quality. I tried the digital radio on my stereo system, it sounded much better than just the included earphones. So this I would recommend this radio for people who have boomboxes. and stereo systems. Now for being a the first HD walk man today, it passes. But there is one problem, not all HD radio stations under the test last night did not come in, and if they did, the conditions, and less obstructions such as computers, and being close to the wireless internet router could reduce signal quality, why? I was able to get most of the stations in HD in the living room than my bedroom where the Wifi router was located. Also the stations have to be very strong just like you are getting an radio data system signal and stereo signal. Now for outside, this radio is highly recommended for portable use, but before you go out, make you charge it up and go jogging or errands.
What's great about it: Picks up HD radio stations and distant FM stations.
What's not so great: Not all HD radio stations come in. Audio drops out while moving around.

Yes and No

Much smaller than expected, have big hands which makes hard to manipulate. Ear plugs keep falling out of ears, will not fit and stay. Initially it is hard to figure out how to use - have not figured out how program for certain stations on command. Kind of pricey for size and functionality.
What's great about it: Small shirt pocket size
What's not so great: Ear plugs fall out (not fit), short battery life, not made for big fingers, complicated to operate initially

Worth the money

I needed an FM radio to listen to while inside at work and this one seemed to fit the bill. I was suprised when I opened the package and the radio was pretty small. The radio works as I expected and the HD stations in my area sounded incredible. The included headphones actually weren't that bad although I still prefer to use my iPod headphones. The first complaint that I have is a problem inherent with HD radio, that when the radio loses HD signal it "fades" to the regular FM signal. The second complaint I have is that it doesn't work all too well inside my office building however this probably isn't the radios fault and it works great when I am outside. Overall I would recommend this to anyone wanting a portable FM radio with the added capability to listen to not only FM stations in HD but also the multiple channels that each station has to offer.
What's great about it: Works as advertised, long battery life
What's not so great: Reception inside, feels cheap

Small well designed portable radio

This radio is well built ,value priced and sounds great. Purchased for AM HD reception at work inside a vehicle repair garage. Tried in personnal vehicle and constantly quit playing AM HD station (KDKA Pittsburgh) and stated "station no longer available". It did not work inside building for purpose I ourchased it. I guess you have to be in a certain distance of transmitter and unit is restricted by antenna size.
What's great about it: Small good sound easy to use
What's not so great: poor reception HD AM Radio

Good sound, few stations in my area

This small player has a rechargeable battery, which is handy. It also has very clear sound signals. Right now, there are not as many stations as I'd hoped which are available in HD as I'd thought. I hope they add more soon. Still, if you need a small player to take to the office, this may be good. It's certainly the least expensive and only portable HD player I've seen in a while.
What's great about it: Has clear sound
What's not so great: Not many stations available

Slow responding processor, no AM band, hard to turn on and off.
What's great about it: Locks in HD stations quite well
What's not so great: When pushing the buttons on the radio, the unit responds very slow, sometimes not at all!

Good Quality HD Radio but Not Perfect

The radio is of good quality, however, reception tends to drop when the unit is placed into a pocket as it causes the digital signal to disappear. Although an arm band is provided I would have preferred a belt clip.
What's great about it: Reception and sound quality is very good even with included earphones
What's not so great: Reception can disappear when radio is placed in pocket. Should have come with belt clip

Portable HD Radio

on April 5, 2010

This portable HD radio is easy to figure out how to use and to take around with you anywhere. The reception is good, and I can tune in to most HD stations in my area, with the drawback of a lack of many good stations in the SF Bay area.
What's great about it: Small and easy to use
What's not so great: Long time to charge battery (four hours)

Good for the $

on April 9, 2010

Bought this to use in the car, as my head unit tuner is dying (but aux input works just fine). Got lots of HD channels when I tried it at home, but in the car, only 3 or 4, but they are ones I listen to the most anyway. Flimsy feeling, the buttons are not very responsive. Would have paid a bit more for something with a higher quality feel and better on the go reception, but this was so reasonably priced, I feel I got my money's worth. With the construction and materials, I can't imagine it will have a very long life span, however. I have no problems with battery life, a full charge easily lasts me 5 days of commuting.
What's great about it: Good unit for the price, good sound quality in HD. Receiption great at home
What's not so great: Flimsy/low quality feel.

HD Radio

on April 20, 2010

This was the only HD pocket type radio I could find at a reasonable price, so I took a chance on it - especially since it was made for Best Buy - a reputable name. I have been very happy with the radio overall and, if you're thinking about trying HD, then I'd give this one a try before I spent a lot on something else.
The thing I'm most impressed with is the sound quality. To me, it's like laying there listening to my mp3 or cd player. The stereo coming in from radio amazes me, but I'm an older guy and remember when radios had tubes.
Bottom line - I would buy this radio again; I would recommend it to family or a friend.
Good luck.
What's great about it: more stations; better sound quality; less disclaimer type ads
What's not so great: I wish it displayed the time.

A Slick Little Unit

on October 17, 2010
Posted by: Plainsman
from Dallas Metro
This is a dandy little radio if you don't require AM. I use miniature radios when I'm out on my bike, and this is one of the smaller, easier to manipulate units on the market.
I don't have any special need for HD, but it works pretty well. Occasionally there will be an echo for a second or two, and some (not all) HD channels fade in and out, and the HD delay results in you hearing the same phrase twice (and/or losing a phrase). Personally, I don't find this particularly troublesome. In addition, the volume dips briefly from time to time. Again, doesn't disqualify the unit -- the decrease is slight.
Why four stars with thesee qualifications? (1) The little screen is terrific, easy to read, lots of info. (2) Sound quality is excellent, perfectly balanced even with cheap headphones. (3) Fits nicely in your pocket and comes with an arm strap. (4) USB charge lasts a long time.
Well worth a try.
What's great about it: Cool screen, good sound, perfect size
What's not so great: HD a little spotty, no AM

Nice portable HD radio.

I like having the ability to use the auxilary to plug the radio into my trucks radio which then gives me HD radio for my truck at a very reasonable price. I do have some trouble with the ability to pick up some stations that I thought would be perfectly clear. Overall though I am please with the quality of the sound and the functinality of the product.
What's great about it: The auxilary hookup capability
What's not so great: Some problems maintaining station signals as I drive along and turn different directlions in my truck.

Exactly What I was looking for.

I purchased this for the FM only as I do not have HD in my rural area.
Since changing all of my stereo systems with ipod compatible products, I was lacking an FM tuner with my components. This little radio can be hooked into the line output on my ipod speaker system which gives me FM when I want it without the bulk of another unit.
It's also great for headphone use but I mainly wanted it to bring FM back into my home.
Cool little thing. Hopefully HD will make it to my neck of the woods and it will be an added bonus. For now, it's doing exactly what I purchased it for.
What's great about it: Compact and efficient
What's not so great: Nothing so far
