Good replacement for old walkman. gets HD channels, which is a plus. Rechargable, so I don't have to buy batteries. Not sure how long it will stay charged, though.

There is a lot of capability for the small size of this portable radio. I like the static-free reception. I especially like receiving the additional sub-channels that several stations in the Seattle area provide. The station that I normally listen to has a total of four channels, each with different programming; with analog reception I would only get one channel. I would miss the extra channels. It also does not need a subscription!

It's great that you can hear HD, but it's not all it's hyped up to be and the reception is barely acceptable, The sound quality is poor with it going in and out with the "wash out" effect.
What's great about it: You get HD Channels
What's not so great: Sound and reception are pooor, The sound constantly has a "raster" effecr.

What can I say? This device is everything Best Buy says it is.
It's easy to use and works great with my home stereo when connected directly to the auxiliary inputs on my receiver, in the car when using an FM transmitter, and as a stand alone unit when listening with earphones.
I was pleasantly surprised by the Insignia HD Radio's ability to lock on to all available HD stations in my area.
Keep in mind that the antenna is the earphone cable or the extension cable when connected to your stereo receiver. Placement of the radio is not an issue and works well in any location in the house or car. A great product for the price!
What's great about it: It works just great and the price is right.
What's not so great: Need to recharge battery often - would have been nice if you could also plug it into electrical outlet.

from Metro NYC Area
Having already been well versed in HD Radio (which is Hybrid Digital, NOT High Definition) in the NYC Metro area (I own several HD receivers, car, home and a custom designed portable unit) I was fully aware of the "quirks" of HD Radio.....ie. the drop outs when the digital stream gets interrupted due to signal loss, the switching between conventional to HD modes when in "fringe" areas... similar to SAT Radios when in a high density urban environment.
I was surprised and impressed at the NS-HD01receiver's sensitivity and it's ability to lock into a HD data stream in a short time after detection of the HD identifier on the broadcast. I was even able to get it to perform quite well inside my car side-by-side with my car HD Radio on the same HD Station while traveling out from NYC to the suburbs. Since the antenna of the unit is the headphone cable, I suggest that you keep it as long as practically possible to maximize the antenna's ability to receive HD Broadcasts when in weak signal areas or areas that experience "multi-path" distortion (when signals bounce off of buildings and other reflective surfaces and arrive at the antenna at slightly different times, causing the digital signal to become "out of sequence".
Bottom line is that this NS-HD01 HD Radio is fantastic for what it is and does, the price, the fact that it is small, lightweight, and works really well. If you are like me and want to listen to more than just the "usual" over the air radio programming that is out there, then HD Radio is a great alternative to subscription based radio receivers.

Really enjoyed this radio during its short life; it was easy to charge, program, had great sound, and excellent reception. After three months it started freaking out - sounded like a CD that was stuck and skipping, and it refused to respond to any commands...it would only shut off when the battery died.
It also does not do AM - it should.
What's great about it: Excellent sound quality, very good reception
