These particular speakers have been around for years and there is a reason for that - they are superb! I worked as the Personal Computers/Home Office supervisor some time ago at Best Buy. I had plenty of time to compare and test out the speakers we sold. These speakers were by far the best and the only thing that ever came close were the higher-end Bose companion speakers priced around $350.

For some reason though, Best Buy rarely has them in stock. It was the same way for all the stores within my territory.

What's great about it: Nice, crisp sound & value

What's not so great: They are never in stock these days, no power button

AWESOME

My previous set up was a 2.0 system, which had good sound but was missing something.

Bought this after I started to hear some cracking from the speakers.

Once I logged into battlefield 3 on my computer and heard the first up close grenade explode, I WAS HOOKED. The deep base sounded amazing and these things get crazy loud. Very good speakers for the money.

What's great about it: Sounds great!

What's not so great: the Sub is big?

I would recommend this to a friend!

These aren't your old PC Speakers

I have purchased several types and brands of computer speaker systems in my life. I'm 49 years old and owned my own computer store back in the 90's, I also am somewhat of a sound tech, it's never good enough, always tweaking the EQ, upgrading my speakers, amps etc... You get the picture.. This computer sound system is one of the most amazing systems I have ever heard! I mean they rival large component systems! I have compared these to Bose, Infinity, Pioneer, JVC, Harman Kardon, JBL, Sony, Creative, Logitech and on and on........ These beat all of them! Not just for the money either! Sound is 100% mind blowing! Stop looking and buy these!

Mind-blowing sound for a great price

I have been looking for an inexpensive, compact, and good sounding system for a long time. I don't have the space for a large, floor-standing system. Since most of my music listening happens while I work at my laptop, I wanted to get (ideally) computer speaker that sounded good and were small enough to fit on my desk comfortably. Plus I did not want to pay major $$$$$. This sounded like an impossible task. Well, I found these Klipsch speakers on this website and was intrigued by the people's comments on the great sound. I went to the store and checked them out. Interestingly, they were positioned next to Bose speakers and I compared the two. Bose does a great job marketing their speakers (such as selecting the soundtrack that highlights the strengths and masks the weaknesses) while the Klipsch speakers were simply hooked up to a random audio source. Plus Bose were at least twice the price of Klipsch. Long story short, I bought the Klipsch 2.1 speakers, brought them home, set them up and ... was literally blown away! I keep rediscovering music with these speakers. Amazingly clear sound, massive bass that you can adjust , an attractive and compact appearance (the subwoofer sits under my desk on the side so it's not in my way at all). We need to watch some movies with these speakers but I expect the result to be great. I watched a short part of Mission Impossible and the introduction is spectacular - you can hear every little detail and the soundtrack chills your blood! I highly recommend these speakers - they are a bargain and they give an awesome sound. The only wish that I have is for these speakers to have a better line-in connector. I understand these are not positioned as high-end speakers but still... a better line-in would be nice.

What's great about it: The sound!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's not so great: The audio connector could be better

Awesome Speakers, Quality Control Not So Much

This product is a long-time classic and has stood the test of audio-time!

I originally purchased a ProMedia 2.1 from Best Buy around 2005 and enjoyed them heavily until now when the sub-woofer died. I also had problems with the volume control knob the past few years but lived with it.

Because these speakers are so awesome I was excited to see this product is still being sold and decided to repurchase the same product, however, it seems there has been come cost-cutting in the meantime.

First, the new sub-woofer weighs A LOT less than its predecessor. Does that mean lower quality? There is no separate power switch, no external fuse access, speaker wires no longer detachable from the back of the speakers. Included with this review is a side-by-side photo of the new and old sub-woofer.

Unfortunately, after running the wires and plugging in the new set I got loud crackling on the right speaker when playing any sound. :-/ Decline in quality control too?

After taking the new set back and exchanging for another with no hassle, the second set works as expected and sounds AMAZING.

I'm disappointed the product has been obviously cheapened a bit from it's original design, however, I recall paying a lot more for the original set back in 2005 (maybe double?).

Let's hope I get another 10 years of enjoyment from this new set. Would have given 5 stars if I didn't have to exchange the defective unit.

Better than our Bose in the office

We have the Bose companion 5 series speakers in the office and these are on par or better than those for a fraction of the price. Picked them up black friday for <100 without hearing them first, but the ratio of positive reviews to the number of reviews made this purchase a no brainer. Completely satisfied. I listen to them at all levels of bass and volume, only thing I ever hear rattling is my house. These things are solid and great quality. I brag about them to anyone willing to listen to me. I've noticed best buy has these on sale several times a year, but either way if you buy these you won't be disappointed.

What's great about it: Sound quality, hardware quality, having a headphone and av port on the side of the right speaker

What's not so great: That i'm a poor college student who couldn't afford these sooner

I would recommend this to a friend!

Great Set Of Computer Speakers

I just purchased these speakers for my desk top computer on sale at Best Buy, Rt. 22 W. Union, NJ on Saturday, 6/26/10.
I did my research on these and truth be told- they are simply amazing.
The sound is incredible between the midds, highs, and lows. All of which are very crisp and clear. These speakers are the best for any real music, movie, or game lover.
After I set these speakers up played my first music compact disc I was blown away with the sound of the sub woofer and the speakers.
Being a musician, (Drummer) I felt the attack of the bass drum so clear that I never felt with my old Harmon Kardon original desk top computer speakers. My old speakers are like toys compared to my new Klipsch-ProMedia 2.1 Speaker system.
Just a note to who ever is thinking of getting a set of these- I highly encourage you to pick these. You will love them just like I do.
I never heard of this company Kiipsch before. However, they have been around for about 60 years.
Lastly, make sure when you set up the sub woofer. Place it under your desk as far back as possible. This will give you the best blend and sound. If you stand right next to it , you will hear of muffled, or boomy sound. Don't worry just sit at your desk or just move away and enjoy the pleasing sound experience. There is no need to crank the volume up on any of the speakers. For me, I do not like distortion.
So check these speakers out. You will not be disappointed.

What's great about it: The overall sound and design!

What's not so great: Canot find anything wrong!

Great speakers...not just for computer..HDTV too

I bought these since I was looking for an alternative to surround sound due to space constraints. I attached them to the converter box for my 42 LCD and the sound is amazing. They are not just for computers anymore.

What's great about it: Great sound. More cost effective than Bose.

What's not so great: Wish I have an on/off switch on the front speakers. No biggie though.

I would recommend this to a friend!
