Worth More Than They Cost

It was funny, I walked into BB and wandered around a bit looking at speakers before a dude came over to ask if I needed help. I said, "Actually, I need the best computer speakers y'all have. I don't care what the price."

He smiled enthusiastically and guided me down the aisle...past the $500 Bose speakers, and everything sitting next to them. He picked up the Klipsch box and put it into my hands. He was fanatical about these things. I thanked him, he left, and I put the speakers back.

I waited for another rep to come around to help me. Eventually someone else did. And again, I asked the same question. And again, I got the same response. So, I bought these clunky looking things and took them home.

Now, I hang out at BB waiting for folks to wander over to the computer speaker aisle. I don't even bother asking them, I just walk up, shove the box for these speakers in their arms and walk off without saying a word. Does this make me weird? Yes. Am I doing them a service? Heck (BB won't let me post the other word) yes. These speakers are worth more than what I paid for them.

Only thing. If you have a Mac like I do? Download an equalizer like Boom 2 or some such. Then you can get a lot lot more out of these bad boys than you could otherwise. Enjoy!

Great sound

I bought these to replace a set of Bose 2.0 Desktop speakers. I read so many reviews on this set that I couldn't help but buy them. The subwoofer is really the reason I purchased this set. My old bose set, while sounding really good, lacked the good low frequency punch and to get good enough low sound had to be modified by the sound card software.
This 2.1 Speaker set however requires NO EQ tweaks at all. Sound is great and it's no wonder these are still on sale even after like 15 years of being on the market. Highs, Mids and Lows all come through fantastic and this set is great for movies, video games and music. My only complaint while small to some, is that there is no power button. Why this is, I have no idea. Seems like a simple omission but an important one.

Wow! What a change a few years can make...

This review comes from someone who has a 10 something year old version of these. The sub gave up the ghost awhile back, maybe a year ago, but the satellites still rocked. Decided I wanted to get some low end thump back and picked up another set last week.

Boy what a difference in quality of sound. The sub still brings it but the satellites just flat out suck. No amount of break in is going to alleviate the drop off in sound quality (though I'm going to give them a few more days before dealing with the after Christmas crowd). None. For folks that don't know what these used to bring to the table and find the sound adequate you don't know what you are missing. These puppies used to rock. In Point of fact my old sats make the new ones nothing more than desk top speakers that sound simply "ok". Again, you don't know what you are missing...

These used to be speakers that could get you into trouble with the neighbors (and my old ones still have that capacity). Very disappointed at this point. Really didn't want to go with a sub woofer but I "knew" I was going to get something familiar so I went for it. Not the case.

Some stuff sounds "okay" but it really doesn't even come close when making a direct comparison. I had to disconnect and reconnect several times to confirm...these sound horrible. Sorry folks, but they do. Maybe some others with previous experience have had better results but mine really just suck. Plain and simple. Not even two shades of white difference, this is black and white.

Kind of sad I had to write such a bad review...they used to be such a stellar product I would have fully endorsed and used to tell people about them all the time. I cannot recommend these at all other than "desktop" status. If that is all you are looking for then the price doesn't warrant the purchase.

What's great about it: Nothing...

What's not so great: Quality down the toilet...

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Unexpected noises and sounds

These speaker setup looks very promising on paper - brand name, good looking speaker, THX certification (better than no certification).
Unfortunately, listening at low- normal volumes I had some weird static/cracking sound on the left speaker. I said ok, a fluke, so exchanged it for another. The second unit was better on the left channel, but it had popping/cracking (like popcorn) sounds when the subwoofer was activated. I can't pinpoint what the cause was in both situations - is it amp, crossover, something loose in the speakers, who knows.

I spent more time unpacking, setup, and packing, rather than listening to speakers.

I hope you others don't have the same problem. After returning the second unit, I went on the floor to see what they had out, and guess what the Promedia 2.1 they had on the floor had static noises on left speaker too!

As such, I cannot recommend these

Decent 2.1 System

At first, I was skeptical about ordering these speakers because of the mixed reviews it's received. I decided to order them because they were on sale. I tested my preferred genres (classical, house, lo-fi, lounge, trance) and it sounds beautiful, but there are several things that could be improved.

Cons:
- The unit is always on
- The speaker wires are thin
- The satellites are not balanced at low levels
- The right satellite overpowers the left until past 7 o'clock on the
Main Volume dial

Overall, it's a decent 2.1 system for the price (94.99). I am slightly upset that the satellites aren't balanced and hope the system does not turn out to be defective. I am debating whether or not to return this system.

What's great about it: Sound

What's not so great: Components, Unbalanced
