Ok camera for basic monitoring, but has software issues and other random annoyances

This camera is frustrating to own. Not because its completely awful, but because it has amazing quality and bad management software. It would be 5 stars if I didn't have the problems I'm mentioning. The video quality of the camera is amazing and I have no problems with it. Its the horrible app, software, and management of the camera itself.
Despite having the motion detection sensitivity down to 1, the camera will pick up shadow shifts and wind movement from trees on the ground. The end result is a nonstop barrage of false alarm texts and email notifications. In the daytime it was enough to have Google temporarily suspend my email account due to the volume up snapshots sent to the address.
Another random issue that I'll get from time to time is at night time the camera just freaks out for no reason and keeps sending notification event alarms. Even with no wind or movement on screen. I've stared out my window at 3am and didn't see anything. I've watched through the live feed and didn't see anything either. Its almost as if the camera retains old movement detection areas despite having cleared them. Its happened twice now. The fix I had to do was completely disable the movement detection and then re configure the detection zones. This tends to resolve the issue.
Occasionally you'll get locked out of the samsungsmartcam.com webpage or phone app as well. An error message stating "Access has failed. Please try again in a moment (simultaneous connection/network unstable)" will appear and you won't be able to view anything. My home connection is a 300MB broadband connection and the camera is hardwired. Running speed tests conforms that there is no drop in my connection. If you are connected remotely and get this error the only thing you can do is reset the camera settings back to default. At which point you'll have to set your time and date and other settings because saving a profile isn't possible. If it happens and you're near the base station, just unplug it and then plug it back in. The problem goes away after the reboot.
If you're on a computer you can only connect to the samsungsmartcam webapage via Internet Explorer or Safari. Yes, you read that right. The app is ok, but its very slow to connect and switch between options.
Regarding accessories, there is a speaker and a mic port, Samsung does not mention which products to use or how to use them.
Its a good camera overall, but the random issues I mentioned are infuriating to deal with. I wanted a camera I didn't have to constantly micro-manage. I shouldn't have to constantly login in and set zone detection areas based on the position of the sun because the camera wants to report every shadow.
Pros: good image quality
Cons: bad management software, motion sensitivity is far too sensitive
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

end of support after 4 years of use?
Do you think this is environmentally friendly or sustainable?
I have been very satisfied with samsung for umpteen years, but I am finding more and more that my samsung devices are getting worse and worse, both in terms of quality and support, washing machine, refrigerator, phones, vacuumcleaner, lamps, pc, etc..
now i've finally reached the point where i will definitely fall back on your competitors before my next purchase, one out of 7 billion people lost ;)
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great HD camera with night vision

I had purchased this camera last week and was able to find time to setup this week. Once you open the box, plug in the power supply and the LAN from the camera to the base unit, you will wait about 1-2 minutes for the sync. Setup was very easy in less than 6 minutes and the image quality is excellent. I have a super high speed (>50mbs) internet so I do not see any delay in projecting the video on my Ipad, Iphone or surface via the Samsung app.
I am planning to buy a few more for my house.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Not ready for prime time - Would not recommend this product

Terrible is the first word that comes to mind. The product itself isn't the problem, its the terrible software/firmware. The product doesn't provide good reliable basic features that actually work well. The motion detection is terrible, so you will get hundreds of e-mails or alerts on your phone every few hours for outside cameras, even if you have it on the lowest detection settings.
It doesn't actually send you a link to a video clip when it detects something, so what's the point of sending an alert? You can't actually see the clip, but you log into live view after the fact? Again, what's the point.
If you want to simply log-in and see a live view of what's going on, then this camera system is great, but if you expect features that work seamlessly and provide items that make sense, like a picture or video clip sent to your phone or tablet, then you will be disappointed.
I have three outdoor SmartCams and I may yank them all down and start over with another brand at some point. I am hoping for software upgrades and features that make since.
I strongly recommend against buying this product at this point.
Run away fast unless you have money to burn and only want a live view. There is no useable built in speaker, but a speaker plug and microphone plug to add after market stuff.
Pros: Durable, Realistic color, Lightweight
Cons: terrible software/firmware, no useable speaker or mircrophone, over sensitive motion detection, no realtime video clips sent to your smart phone, no easy access to video clips, no storage of videos on your pc, if your cam gets taken all video is gone
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great camera but with some really bad design considerations. The camera SD playback is can only be viewed with MS IE. Google Chrome and Firefox do not work! This means your mobile Android device, i.e. Samsung Galaxy S4, can only view real time video. To view recorded video you have to remove the SD card to watch it on your phone.
Although the camera comes with a 26 ft LAN cable the wi-fi box is very limited in range. If less than two bars the video begins to suffer, i.e. reduced resolution. My experience for adequate signal was about 20 feet from my router on a stick house.
Night vision is great, Lens wide angle causes fish eye distortion which is quite noticeable if viewing more than 25 foot range.
Biggest disappointment is the required IE to view recorded video.
Pros: size
Cons: ie web browser required, no email support for product phone contact only
I would recommend this to a friend!
