Two broke within a month

Tried one of these Oster Silver Elecric Wine Opener and it broke. To replace this one I acquired another to replace the one that broke. Tried this new one and it also broke. A few years ago this item may have been worth it's money. Now? I wish Oster you to look into the quality control so their merchandise will prof of items to purchase. Good luck. Interesting that if you agree to these terms your review may not show up here.

Works great, but do not leave it in the charger.

I love this thing. The most recent purchase (April 2013) was the second one. The first one lasted 10 years before the battery died. This one lasted 3 years. The difference was the the first was not placed in the charger except when it was completely run down. The second one came into our new home with plenty of counter space, so we followed the directions and left it in the charger all of the time. This has NiCd battery which loses its charging capacity of you do not run it down completely.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great Item for the Price

Quality overall is good. The cradle: it in my opinion is too lightweight for the opener. It is a little difficult to place the opener into the cradle at times. The positives of the item. It has a convenient foil cutter in the cradle which is a nice touch. The opener overall works well. The reverse option to release the cork from the screw is a nice feature. Batter life is great and the buttons are easy to use. The overall size of the products is nice as well, it is small enough to keep on the counter top and not take up too much space. I was provided this product to test and provide an unbiased review. After using it i would recommend it and will use it in my home.

WORKS GREAT ...UNTIL ONE CONTACT FELL OFF...

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] THIS WINE OPENER WAS GIVEN AS A GIFT, AND AS FAR I KNOW, WAS ONE OF MANY PURCHASED FROM MY FAMILY TO GIVE AS GIFT. FOR WHAT I KNOW, MINE IS THE THIRD OF THOSE, THAT BROKE WITHOUT BEING USED TO MUCH. MINE, WICH DID NOT EVEN REACH 30 BOTTLES OPENED,ONE OF THE CONTACTS FELL OFF (I CONSIDER IT IS A POOR DESIGN ).FIRST TIME DISAPOINTED WITH OSTER PRODUCTS.

I loved it so I gave them away as gifts...until

So I bought this about 5 years ago, a quicker way to get to the wine - SIGN ME UP! Any way, I have since bought like 5 more for housewarming gifts and my mom that swears she doesn't have a problem. Over the last two years I noticed the back side of mine and the cutter were getting sticky - dog fur sticks to it and everything else, I can scrub it off and it turns the sponge black. But today - as an added bonus it turns my hands black too. So I get open wine and black hands, I guess if I open and drink enough wine I won't care if my hands are black...and honestly I still love the thing - it works great. I wish it would break so I could buy a new one that doesn't stick to things.

Issues with the opener

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this for a gift and I loved it! The opener was working fine, but then I had issues charging it. The red light never goes away and now the opener won't pull the cork out of the bottles! It goes in fine, but now it's a mess trying to open bottles. It seems a lot of people are having issues with this product. Is the company replacing them??? Thanks!

Great wine opener

I've had one of these for over 8 years and it just now finally died. Rechargeable battery won't hold a charge any longer. Just ordered a new one and hope I get the life out of it I did out of the old one. Did find out though that you're not supposed to leave the opener sitting in the charging base all the time which I did .... probably why the battery died.

Not so great

Disclosure: I received this product for free to review. I had high hopes for this, I did. The product itself seems promising. It's a very sturdy and easy to use item straight out of the box. Place it on the bottle, move the lever down, to remove the cork push the up button. It unfortunately is not consistent. I tried 4 bottles of wine:
First - waxy type cork, less than 1 yr old wine - no luck. The opener slipped and would not remove the cork.
Second - standard cork - 2 yr old bottle - this one worked well. Easy to remove.
Third - another waxy type cork - did not work.
Fourth - standard cork - 5 year old bottle - failed miserably.
I've gone back to using my sommelier's corkscrew and elbow grease. At least it works perfectly every time.
