Star Trek (2009) on Blu-Ray is a fantastic film running 126 minutes long.The film is a new take on an existing series, it does suffer from consistency issues with the Star Trek series. Nothing that will hurt the movie if you can look beyond that though. With that said, the movie is paced well, with the entire story being important to the outcome of the film. Throughout the movie, we have an opportunity to explore a number of landscapes, ice worlds, space, and earth. This Star Trek though is beginning of the journey, prior to the original Star Trek series, and as such is a perfect entry into the Star Trek world for both new and old. The story is a tightly nit tale of retribution, coming of age, and desire. The screenplay was well written, the characters were confident and fun, and as a whole it was a great experience. There were some pieces of this which may make it inappropriate for younger audiences depending on family rules. There is some kissing, women in underwear, and some crude humor. There is also some profanity spread throughout as well as characters who are intoxicated. Overall though, I would say for most families and children this movie would be fine for anyone over the age of 10-12.
The video itself is fantastically done in 1080P with a light grain. Fleshtones are correct, and correctly reflect the lighting for the different environments, even when some of this is done in CG. The blacks throughout the film were deep and textured, an important piece of a film like this. The darker ships were well textured and differentiated from the depths of space behind them. Overall, the film is an excellent representation of what a video can look like and will be a great way to showcase the power of your home theater display.
The audio is presented in Dolby TrueHD (5.1 I believe) and is engulfing in every way. The soundtrack features powerful LFE (low frequency extension -- bass from the subwoofer), such as when the ships jump to warp, but it's important to realize that the entire dynamic range (low to high volume levels) is compressed in comparison to a more common action movie. The movie takes advantage of the full 360º area and creates a soundstage filled with detail and direction that will allow you to stay fully engrossed in the movie.
Overall this is a fantastic movie with strong video and audio aspects. Highly recommended.

Glad I bought this on Black Friday but the only reason I am not giving this product 5 stars (you will notice I gave it a 4 and not a 1 because I'm not going to trash this product with a one-star review over the following issue which is very likely Paramount's fault.) is because when I opened it at home, I found out that instead of what was supposed to be a 4K Digital Copy+4K UltraViolet code for Star Trek (2009), it had a 4K Digital Copy+4K UltraViolet code for Interstellar. And before anyone says "well, you bought a used copy." False, I DID NOT buy a used copy on Black Friday as Best Buy DOES NOT sell used copies of movies or used copies of television shows, not even on Black Friday. This happened to me with a brand new, factory sealed copy which I had to exchange for another one to make sure I got the correct 4K Digital Copy voucher. Again, I firmly believe that the guilty party for this is Paramount and ONLY Paramount and no one else. That's why I am giving this 4 stars and not 1 star.
Aside from that one issue, the discs were in perfect condition and I look forward to seeing the 4K UltraHD version of this movie since this is the only Star Trek movie that didn't result in a double-dip.
If you buy this, make sure the code voucher is correct. If you buy this and get an Interstellar 4K Digital Copy code voucher, exchange it for another one so you get the Star Trek (2009) 4K Digital Copy code voucher.

I am also A REAL FIRST GENERATION TREKKER. If Berman was able to make 4 series and 10 movies without a continuity issue, than so was JJ. He took the characters and a general picture of Star Trek and then created a new Star Trek universe.
There are certain lines you just don't cross. Follow the new timeline...Vulcan destroyed...Spock's katra can't be rejoined in 3rd movie so he is dead...Spock now dead, there is now way to go get the whales in 4th movie and earth is destroyed...Tuvok never born so Janeway was never saved and is dead....and on and on!!!!
"Scotty, Beam me out of here!!"
The best part of the movie is that it was released around the holidays. Now I can "Re-gift" the dvd.
Live Long and Prosper....oh yeah...not on Vulcan!!!!

Star Trek as a movie is brilliant..but there is something wrong with the blu ray movie..My player is good because it plays other movies just great...The star trek 3 disc bundle comes with a pc format movie also...and this also shows those blue lines/shades ...so I think it's not the blu ray or my player...something is strange the way these guys made these discs...I exchanged the discs, but same problem.... what's going on!!!!
What's great about it: Story, effects
What's not so great: Blu Ray sucks...Weird blue/white lines appearing..something is wrong

Unbelievably good job of casting new faces to old characters, and a plot that returns an old face to connect the dots with the new. A bold beginning that offers a balance of up-tempo plot without a loss of character development, so good it will leave you eagerly anticipating Abrams next foray with this cast and crew. Definitely left the pace of the 1st Star Trek film in the dust with the opening sequence.
