Great movie, great bargain version

I bought this blu-ray for my collection when I saw it on sale for a very good price. I didn't look too closely, and may not have noticed it has only a commentary track and some kind of NASA blu-ray app feature. No extras with this set. No DVD or streaming/download copy included, either.

Sound and video quality are great. I noticed right away the sound was mastered at a fairly low level, not uncommon for a lot of shows and movies. As a novice audiophile I assume this was to give lots of headroom for the music and sound to give a good dynamic response. I only have a basic TV setup, without external speakers so to me it just sounds fine, as long as I turn it up.

This movie grows on me as I rewatch it. I am a longtime Star Trek fan, and was concerned about the reboot franchise. I still think Star Trek is better on the small screen, but this one gives a pretty compelling story. I think they did a great job with the recasting, and the visuals are really nicely done in a blockbuster sort of genre. LLAP.
