I was looking for a comparable replacement for a Creative Zen 8GB player, but wanted to try to do so on a budget. I started out looking for direct replacement feature-wise. I was shocked to find that the prices on these things have not really dropped much in two years. I don't personally need an expansion slot, so taking that option out really opened things up. This Sony was, by far, the best deal for the money. I did not install the software that came with it, I just drag and drop files into the appropriate folder - very easy. The battery charged in less than 2 hours. Navigation and set-up is very intuitive. When playing music, the screen shuts off automatically to maximize battery life. The mini-USB connection is great since most of my gadgets use it.
What's great about it: Ease to use, 8GB capacity, not an I-pod
What's not so great: Plastic gets scratched up looking at it

I recently bought this Sony MP3 for my wife. She loves to read but has developed macular degeneration (AMD) and needed a small, easily operated portable device so she could keep up with her reading with the "talking books" program. This Sony MP3 fits the bill perfectly! It's so easy to operate that she can find and operate the control buttons without looking. We've also loaded some of her favorite music to the MP3. Because of the 8GB memory, there's no problem with having enough room for anything she wants to listen to. As a matter of fact, I've listened to some of the music, and the sound quality is excellent. This is a great product at a reasonable price, and I would recommend it to anyone!
What's great about it: Easy to use, great sound quality, good price

I like it. It had all I needed, MP3 music and radio. It has video as well, but I'm not a fan of video on any small screen. This player has nice design and good price for the value. After acquiring this Sony player I believe I-pod with $133 is grossly over-priced. I wish Sony had better bass set-up(like CD walkman had super-bass) as well a surface that is less scratchable.
What's great about it: Easy to use. Nice Design. Good price for the value
What's not so great: Bass frequency is avarage, Easily "Scratchable"

great mp3 player for price!!! The only problem is short battery life. Best Buy has jackets made especially for this player, but put them on when you buy it because it scratches easily. Best buy also has some inexpensive head phones to replace the sony ones. The buttons are noisy.
What's great about it: good price, size, easy to use, very good equalizer, sony has a good name
What's not so great: short battery life, scratches easily, uncomfortable head phones, no voice or fm recorder, noisy buttons

I have never owned an mp3 player and could not believe how easy this was to use. The FM is incredible. I am picking up stations from over 100 miles away.
What's great about it: Ease of use
What's not so great: The battery life is not as long as it advertises

Best thing is the price. I got mine for 79.99 with a 9.99 1 year warranty and it came with a pair of rather nice ear phones. It's battery life is really good, I think it says it has a 30-hour battery life or so, I would say it might be even longer then that depending how high the volume is set. The video quality on it is super good, like a mini HD TV. Also once you get the hang of it it is very easy to use. It also has lots of options, I personally liked the "equalizer" it has, which lets you change the musics play settings like in windows media player. The only negative thing I have found out about it is that it strachtes extremly easily, I kind of tossed it onto a desk (only like a 5 inch toss) and it stratched the entire back of it... I would highly recommend getting a case for it if you don't want scratches. But although it does get scratches, I have dropped it a few times and it still works even after a hard fall, just is kinda scratched up. I'm really glad that I bought it, love it's 8 GB of storage for only 79.99......Gotta get a case for it now...
What's great about it: Good sound output, good video quality, easy to use, REALLY GOOD battery life, and durable.

This unit is really easy to navigate and has good sound. The battery life isnt as great as advertised, but it still beats any other player I have had. It is lightweight, a little flimsy. it seems to be quite a bit slower than the others when I download music, pics onto it....not sure why! For what I paid for this mp3, I am overall satisfied

It's a very nice MP3 player for the price. However, I cannot get it to sync with Windows Media Player 11 (which is the recomended program and version for this MP3 player). Sonys costomer support has been less than helpful. After 3 hours of online troubleshooting and 3 phone calls to Sony support. It still won't sync. I'm going to be returning it to Besy Buy today and looking for another Player.
What's great about it: Nice menu/OS, cheep, lots of memory for the $
What's not so great: Compatability problems with Vista and/or Windows Media Player
