I use this camera for my photography business.
Solid build quality, nice features, a good alternative to the 5D if you are on a budget. Just remember it's not a full frame sensor.
The 28mm-135mm kit lens produces decent quality images.
If you want top quality images invest in the " L" class lenses.
overall I'm very happy with this camera.
What's great about it: Pro Camera features without the price. Solid build quality.
What's not so great: None.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I upgraded from a Rebel purchased 5 years ago to the 7D and I haven't had any reason to regret the move. The overall function is much like that of the Rebel, while the additional features are easily understood and mastered after a brief review of the manual. The 7D allows a greater flexibility over my Rebel in low light situations permitting me a wider range of options. So far, no negatives.

When I bought this it seemed expensive but after using it for a month, it was a camera that lived up to it's value. The focus is great and allowed me to experiment with aperture. I take mainly portraits and the color calibration really reflects the printed picture form the screen of the camera. If you're a hobbyist or a beginner, this may not be for your since it's got controls and all sorts of functions not on the usual digital camera. But for everyone else, get it, because you will never regret the quality.

Got more than I expected

I moved from a 30D to the 7D in hopes of more room to crop in case I needed it and more ISO headroom. I got that and much more the dynamic range on the 7D seems to have increased to 3 stops above and below what you took the image originally at when using RAW format. Compared to my 30D it's almost DOUBLE the head room vs Noise when editting my images.
Taking pictures in the full sun I no longer get images of silhouettes because the background was much more brighter than the foreground, instead I get slightly blown out background but I have a perfectly usable image of my subjects in front of me. A little editting in Photoshop and the images are golden.
The autofocus is fast, the screen is bright and the 100% viewfinder takes a little used to when you're upgrading, you actually crop for what you see.
Batteries are EXPENSIVE though compared to the comparable Nikon.
I realized I didnt need video so buying it based on Video wasn't the best idea as its a great feature but hardly used. I paid a premium thinking I'd use it but not so.
I could've saved a little and bought a D300s but making very large prints lately has been a blessing with the extra Mega Pixels. However the file sizes are devastating to my hard drive. And processing time takes a bit longer to load when editing in lightroom.
What's great about it: Focus Mechanism
What's not so great: Expensive battery, very large file sizes

WOW! A DSLR that does everything I need and more
- Great high resolution pictures
- Stills or full HD movie modes
- Many features to learn about
- Wish it had been less expensive, but it's a wonderful camera
- Sensor cleaning is a must
- Burst picture sequences are great
- Clearly defines focus areas
- Great photos with very little time
- Excellent action photos
What's great about it: High resolution, full-featured
What's not so great: Price and weight are both high

This is a great camera. I researched and debated between the Nikon 300ds and the Canon EOS 7D. Both are excellent, but the Canon won my heart. I'm grateful that I'd had experience with a DSLR prior to this or I'd have been very confused and frustrated for a long time. The camera is so feature rich that it takes time to learn all the possibilities and how to get the best pictures out of it. I'm still learning! BUT, that being said, it doesn't have to be complicated...it can be set on Automatic, or Creative Auto, or even Program mode, and it's pretty much all done for you.
I'd highly recommend this camera as it seems to be a very solid, high quality product. I LOVE IT!!!
What's great about it: A wealth of great capabilities, very high quality construction and images.
What's not so great: It CAN be very complicated...but doesn't have to be. It's not for a first time DSLR user, in my opinion.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I love this camera. It is ALMOST perfect. Unlike Best Buy's description of this camera it DOES NOT HAVE SCENE MODES ON THE DIAL. I know it is because this is geared to a more advanced user, and I am one of those, but sometimes it is nice to just pop it in one of those modes on the dial and go. I don't always want to think about it, and I like to experiment with different effects and those modes give me one more option. Otherwise this camera it awesome! I would recommend this to anyone, but be warned you need some knowledge of manual camera settings or be willing to learn to get the most out of this camera. And check out all the specs on other website to make sure you are getting what you are expecting. Unfortunately I will be patiently awaiting a replacement to the 50d that has video and scene modes. I think it will better suite many people's needs.
What's great about it: Everything, kit lens, rugged, amazing features
What's not so great: No scene modes on the dial, little heavy but probably can get used to
I would recommend this to a friend!

If you want the most out of your camera and shooting abilities, and if you want the best quality and customizing you can get this camera is the one. Speed, megapixels, grip, video, menu and user interface all make this camera the absolute best. Only consider the 5D if you are going to be shooting mostly indoors, macro and portraits and want to preserve your viewing angle and megapixels. I am new to the SLR world but I feel exceptially confidant with every picture i take. Burst shot at 8fps lets you fire away and always get the best shot possible. 18 Megapixels lets you blow up to whatever size you want and have way more room for editing and cropping. The menus are so easy to learn, you can turn pro very quick with the customizing options. Overall good lens it comes with in the kit, recommend looking for additional lens though. Get something with a lower F stop to get great action shots. Overall I am in love with my 7D
What's great about it: Takes great pictures, has every single feature you want on your SLR, and a few more :)
What's not so great: I didn't get some free skittles with my 7D
