I'm an old film camera guy and have wanted to switch to the convenience of digital for quite some time now. However, I either couldn't find a digital camera that offered the capabilities or output quality of my old A-1 or F-2, or I couldn't afford the few digitals that would. I finally saved enough of my pennies to buy a 7D. The camera is phenominal. The image quality is great at all speeds and ISO ranges. It's a little on the pricey side, but just remember, you get what you pay for, and in the long run this camera delivers.
I only gave it a 4 on "ease of use." That is because it has so many options it's nearly impossible to remember them all - but not necessarily because it's hard to use (more buttons than an F-15 cockpit!). I've only had the camera for a month so I'm still learning its capabilities, and it's taught me something new every time I've taken it out for a spin. It gives me options/tools I never had before that will enable me to become a better photographer.
Bottom line is it's a great camera. The kit lens that came with it is pretty good, but I would certainly recommend buying better optics if you're a pro or serious amatuer (e.g. Canon's L series).
It is neither a beginner's camera nor a camera for the timid photographer. If you're a photographer who is serious about his/her work (whether pro or advanced amatuer, or a mid-level looking to be challanged and take your photography to the next step), then give the 7D serious consideration.
What's great about it: Great quality pics at a wide range of ISO settings/light conditions.
What's not so great: Wish the price was a little lower, but isn't that true of everything?

I've had this camera for a couple days, but I've had a Canon Rebel XSi for two years prior. I needed an upgrade. This camera has been great so far. I've taken a few hundred photos and some video. The video is hard to get used to. Best if used on a tripod. The video files are huge so I recommend getting larger than a 4G CF memory card with 30 mb/s. Also the photo files range from 5mb to 7mb, so they are also bigger than usual. I do not recomment this to the soccer mom. Although the automatic functions are good, the whole camera is going to be complicated to anyone who's never picked up a DSLR before. It's backwards from the Rebel, but once I get the hang of it, it'll be easier. At 6400 ISO, there is a little noise, but you'll have to spend 10k + to get a camera with zero noise. It is very fast. 8 frames per second is great for sports, except the focus doesn't change throughout the frames, so sometimes they seem out of focus. Overall this camera is excellent and worth every penny. Also, the lens that comes with it, 28-135mm has a great range. It's perfect for everyday use.
What's great about it: quality, fast, professional
What's not so great: not easy to use at first

The Canon EOS 7D and the Canon T2i may seem to be the same camera - with a widely different MSRP - at first glance, but they are not. The T2i is an 18 megapixels camera, but it is constructed with a very lightweight plastic body. The 7D is constructed of a metallic alloy which gives it heft and is a constant reminder that the 7D is a workhorse professional digital camera. The 7D also has a number of other improvements such as a faster and longer life shutter as well as having nearly twice as many autofocus imaging points. The T2i is a fine camera on its own, but if you want a camera that will last for years as well as one that is capable of being exposed to greater weather extremes and the occasional rough handling, then I highly recommend shelling out the extra dough and getting the 7D. It well be money well spent.
What's great about it: Sturdy build. Lots of features. Great resolution.

Great Camera. Many bad reviews, typically from inexperienced users. The learning curve is not a fast one, but after a few months you wont even realize how much you have improved.
Primarily used to shoot sports, I find it fast and the servo focus is actually great. Heavy camera so save up for a good tripod/monopod. Might also want to also have other EF lenses.
Long Lasting Battery.
HD Video will not record clips longer than 15minutes? Not very good Horizontal Panning in video mode.
Does not come with CF card / HDMI cable.
Lots of flexibility when choosing image save quality. Quick RAW+JPEG switching mode.
Good ISO sensitivity. Pictures in low light are difficult but when done right look great.
Strongly recommended.
What's great about it: Everything
What's not so great: Video Length restriction.

Previous to the 7D i used a Ti1 which was a step up to any camera i have previously owned. Recently though I was given a generous gift by an employer and able to buy the 7D. Though this camera I have started my own business in sports photography and promotional work. The 60 fps is amazing when filming movies and the HD quality is teriffic. I personally dont think the 5D worth the extra 1000 especially when you can buy a nice lens with that money. Camera bodies change every few years but camera lenses havent changed for over 20.
What's great about it: Worth the money, pictures are extremely large and clear
What's not so great: nothing

I have had my eye on this camera since it came out a year ago and I am sure pleased with it. I have been shooting with a Rebel for 6 years so moving up was the right thing to do. The 7D is so easy to use and set up. It is heavy with the battery grip but it really feels like a solidly built camera. I really love the 19 point focus system, the focusing is so much easier to accomplish. Also looking foward to using the live view to achieve focus. This is an awesome camera period!

This camera is a professional level camera. I am not a professional just a hobbyist that was able to finally upgrade and purchase a DSLR. The ease of use for this camera is mind blowing. I assumed that it would take several days to learn how to operate and understand. While I am no expert, I was able to take it out of the box and turn it on and take phenomenal pictures. The manuals and disc that came with the camera were very easy to understand and follow. The camera, itself, is very user friendly. I spent about 2 hours reading the manual (not necessary) while the battery was charging and was able really get the full use of the camera the first time. However, reading the pocket guide would have been sufficient.
As an aside, I gave the camera to my 7 and 10 year old (with supervision) and told them which button to push to take the picture only. They both were able to take perfect pictures every time and they were not in the full auto mode.
I have had this camera for 24 hours and have taken over 200 pictures so far in various light levels and with various camera settings. I would easily recommend this to anyone as a first time DSLR camera. Worth the price.
What's great about it: Picture quality, set up, ease of use, functions, sturdy
What's not so great: Heavy, price
