A great camera w/ some notes

Covering the ratings chart ... I will say that I love my 7D. It is definitely a full featured camera reaching out to consumers who don't mind paying a little extra for greatness. On performance I give 5 stars with a side note--> You need a UDMA 6 card or better[for the future of CF cards] to achieve full ability for high speed shooting and video recording. The quality of everything I have shot has been great and noise levels are surprisingly not bad at all for the 18 megapixel sensor it has. For the price section--I always believe the price can be a little lower (on almost anything) but people need to shop around. In the end, I am absolutely astounded by this cameras performance and this is my first DSLR so do take note of that--but I think even the pros out there can definitely put this camera to use just as movie makers are already doing and TV shows (ie NBCs - Saturday Night Live)
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, good battery life, wireless flash control, being a canon product...

Within the past year I have gone from a Canon T2I to a Canon 60D and now to the Canon 7D. I have been a Canon loyal customer for over 30 years and have had numerous camera from film to digital SLR's. Having used the 7D for the past month I can easily state that it is without a doubt the best camera I have ever used. The quality of build is exceptional and the picture and video results are spectacular. I am still thankful that I made the decistion 30 years ago to go with Canon. It has been a wonderful relationship.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: noisy

After upgrading from the 50D I am extremely satisfied with the 7D. I was still happy with my 50D but really wanted HD video. The picture quality from the 7D is better than my 50D, with less noise and more detail in every situation. As others have stated, I have no problem getting nicely saturated, very crisp images from my 7D. Yes, video is rather basic with not a lot of options, but I don't need more than what the 7D offers. It would be nice to have more control over the audio, especially when using a lens with IS. Sometimes I am recording a quiet scene and end up with too much noise from the camera. Only other downside for me is I greatly miss the 50D's full auto without flash setting. I used it a lot for quick shots in unusual lighting conditions and the Q screen in CA mode on the 7D just isn't fast enough all the time. The 7D is my dream camera in every other way and the flash preference wouldn't be a problem if I could save CA settings in one of the three custom slots. Maybe a firmware update can do this? Anyway, the 7D offers plenty of detail, fine color reproduction and good basic HD video for a price that seems low for what you get in the 7D. I don't have L series lenses (yet!) but get beautiful results with the 18-135mm IS, 55-250mm, 50mm f/1.4 and the 10-22mm Canon lenses I own. I am very satisfied with every Canon product I've owned and would recommend this camera to anyone.
Pros: good battery life, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Missing features/settings, noisy, can't save adjusted ca settings

Canon EOS 7D - Beyond the Still
on October 6, 2009

The movie mode offers now full manual control which is definitely a must. The flash has also an Integrated Speedlite Transmitter which i often use. A cool thing is also the Dual Axis Electronic Level that i use for balancing the horizon. I specially like the viewfinder wich has a 100 percent coverage.
The AF-system features 19 points. This is better than on the 50D (9 points) - but i really would like to have 51 points.
(I have got a EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM lens, a EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM lens, a Speedlite 580EX II and 4 LP-E6 batteries)
Thanks to Canon - you worked hard for our enjoyment!
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, full hd video, manual video control
Cons: "only" 19 af points

Best nonfull-frame camera ever!!

Before to buy this camera I REALLY have spent hours and hours reading a lot of reviews. I have compared a lot of models including the full frame models. For me high quality under high ISO is fundamental and together with the huge amount of pixels I decided to buy this camera. Now I can't be more happy!! This camera is simply perfect!! Look:
It has the right price. Very good noise levels under 3200. Full hd video 18 megapixel Near perfect body desing A loooooot of features
By the way Canon has the best lenses comparing to others trademark. So now I can take pictures inside a helicopter, during the night, can use the built-in flash. In sumary I'm ready for any situation without miss a shot. That's the best way to stay in the nonfull-frame world and save money without miss the quality!! All the competition cameras (same price) don't have this features and this quality. I strong recommend it to anyone that needs a upgrade or even is thinking to move to dslr world because is to cheap comparing the quality.
Do as me: Read a lot of review in other sites and choose this one!!
Pros: good battery life, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

HD Video and the AGC

I am working with CANON products for more than 10 Years (XM1, XM2, 350D and 7D). I'm happy with the great qualitiy of the camcorders/DSLRs and the results they produce(d).
Everything is great (thats why I always choose(d) CANON products) EXCEPT the consideration of customer requests and support for the CANON 7D Soundproblems.
This is such a great device for HighDefinition Filmmaking, but why is there no adequate Soundrecording control?
The problem, which EVERY 7D Filmmaker critizises, is the AGC (“Automatic Gain Control") at MIC Input. Plug the best external Mic you can buy on the DSLR. The sound will still be miserable, full of noise and hiss. And nobody knows why!
CANON: please give the customers the same sound recording options they already have with the great picture/movie quality options. Why should I use the 7D for filmmaking, if theres no option for MANUAL GAIN CONTROL?!
Pros: good battery life, quiet, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Missing features/settings, noisy, automatic gain control

Fantastic Camera

I have a 50D and love it, but the 7D just does some things better. The 7D takes very good low light photos. Is it as good as the full frame sensor Canons? No, but it isn't bad. Even at very high ISO, I have never taken a photo that was so bad that Photoshop couldn't easily fix it. I have never had a "quality" problem with my 7D photographs. This is a complicated camera. One wrong setting can cause problems with your photographs. One thing I have noticed. If you don't use the best lenses that you can afford (I use mostly "L" Glass), that 18 Megapixel sensor will "feature" every flaw in your lens. My 50D will do the same thing. The 7D is built like a tank, focuses fast and accurately, generates beautiful colors, has given me some outstanding photographs, and is well balanced. I love it!

A Work Horse

I bought the 7D shortly after the first firmware upgrade, being used to the 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D & 50D it took me a while to get used to and really understand the focusing system which is by far much superior than the ones mentioned before.
I find the quality to be fantastic and a robust build without having a giant in your hands while maintaining a pro feeling.
It's been over a year since I bought it and still keep finding more custom functions that spoil me more than the one I discover before.
One important thing you must use this baby with a pro L series glass if you really want to know what you can get out of it.
While it is not a full frame sensor camera remember it is the APS-C high end top of the line, Is it worth going from a 50D to a 7D......... don't let anybody fool you, the answer is YES!
Overall after all this time, still I can't get enough of my 7D
I recommend this product to a fiend!!
Pros: Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, pack with features that willl kee surprising you
Cons: Short battery life, burst frame rate will decrease in the dark
