Best Canon APS-C so far

This camera definitely needs some updates (I heard a Mark II is on the way) like a vari angle LCD for video, a new sensor to improve HI ISO performances and so, but it's still the best EOS APS-C camera., for stills and video too. Actually, it's still the only "professional" EOS APS-C camera on the market. If you don't need its professional features, like the professional grade build quality, the great ergonomy, the 8 fps or the very good AF, a much cheaper model like the 3Ti will do just fine.
Pros: Nice features/settings, Superior build quality, good for videos
Cons: expensive, needs an update

Great Camera

I added 7d about 6 months ago after my wife took interest in our T1i. There are so many nice features in this camera, but the focusing system is amazing. The ability to quickly switch AF points/zones is very handy when shooting action. Servo focus is very accurate. Image sharpness is very good and with L-series lens borderline amazing. Remote flash is a welcomed addition. Although this is my primary still camera, I increasingly find myself shooting video with it.

EOS 7D Awesome Camera

I have used this Camera for 6 months now (told myself I would wait to write a review until I used it more than a few days). All I can say is AWESOME CAMERA. Every Picture is crisp and clear even when speed shooting. We tend to take 10 to 12 action shots of our children and they all look great. I couldn't ask for a better camera. When in HD film capture mode the camera is better than our dedicated video recorder. When we bought this camera we bought it frame only and are using 2 lenses that were purchased for my old canon back in 1996 and it works fabulously I can only dream of what a newer uptodate lens would do with it.
Pros: superfast camera action, wonderful versitility in video mode and speed mode, superfast focus, detail of pictures are unbelieveable, love the extened battery base grip, "aa" battery magazines available
Cons: wish it would time stamp photo's sometimes, a little heavy and bulky with base grip

Great Value

As an owner of a 5D Mark 2, I thought when I bought my 7D that it would get little action. I really purchased it as a backup and sports camera only (because of the 8fps for under $2k) and never intended to use it for anything else. The 5D2 had all the other scenarios covered but now that I have it, I love it. I use it for everything from weddings to personal pictures. This camera makes capturing my 3 yr old niece easy. Definently recommend this camera to anyone that needs to capture a moving subject.
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Solid Operation, fast everything

Manual shortcomings

I graduated from a 20D to a 7D, so I am not a total novice. Neither the manual that comes with the 7D, nor the online duplicate manual thoroughly explains the submenus. To learn about these, you must pour through reviewers, online help, and ask your fellow club members. Can't you take a knowledgeable employee, lock them in a room to write a thorough explanation of each 'thing" the camera can do....and then (important) have an outside editor read it and tie up loose ends?
Pros: Bright LCD
Cons: Complicated controls/menu, bad manual

4 Years of Satisfaction
on January 31, 2014

There were things that needed getting used to that may have reduced my rating 4 years ago, but I'm glad I didn't jump to conclusions. This camera is still very relevant, despite its age. It is professional quality, sealed tight, solid and super-responsive. The only thing I regret, is that it has no headphone port to monitor sound during video recording. A person whose work involves extensive filmmaking would obviously choose the 70D instead. But, very few wildlife photogs would find fault in this camera, except for the dated high ISO performance.
Pros: rugged and tough, excellent weathersealing, very responsive
Cons: dated high iso performance, no headphone jack

Ecellent except for low light AF

Coming from the 1D-mkII N and the MK III I find the 7D to be an excellent camera. Although using an APS-C sesor it's picture quality is competitive with 1D line (NOT the Ds). Great LCD, fast operation, comfortable to use with one negative: The Auto Focus needs improvement! it hunts too much in low light and almost unusable in "live view" shots, here, it hunts even with good inside light. Great performer if you use L lenses, only "good" with other Canon lenses (17-85 mm IS f/4-5.6 USM for example). I like the 7D nonetheless, fun to use. Recommended: highly!
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: very slow af in low light.
