Superior but Has issues still

The Canon 7D is definitely a superior camera and its build quality is that of L Glass. You can't beat all the features that it has like the 19AF, Full 1080P Video, and 8FPS shooting. Being an early adopter though, the camera still has a lot of issues with its firmware that should have been worked out before the final release candidate. I've upgraded to the latest firmware (1.1.0 at time of review), and still see issues with the camera. Constant freezing of functions that will not allow me to make adjustments to them. I lost communication to my Speedlite, which I had to disable and re-enable flash firing in order to resolve. AEB froze on me and I couldn't adjust it until I turned the camera off/on. And a couple other intermittent issues.
Another thing I am disappointed with is image quality. I read a lot of reviews questioning the IQ of the camera, and I would have to agree with some them. I think the IQ is lacking and at the higher ISO(starting at 1600), you really start to see a degrade in the IQ; I'm using L Glass too. The Canon T1i IQ could give this camera a run for the money and it costs less than half the price.
The other little things like the leveler, live view, etc are nice, but I don't really use those too much in the real world shooting. Just extra added frosting to me.
Overall, I am pleased with the camera and hope that Canon will iron out all the issues with the firmware.
Pros: Superior build quality, Nice features/settings
Cons: Poor image quality

4th SLR camera

I love canon cameras. Their construction is flawless. I jumped from a 40d to the 7d over the 5d because of the versatility being able to use ef and eff lenses even though it was still a half frame camera. It took me a few months to combine the customized settings. When I did the real beauty of that camera came alive. I do a lot of scenic pictures landscape/wildlife/cityscapes/weather with my own camera. I do portrait pictures at a commercial studio for work and that company uses canon 40d. I had seen a few complaints about noise problems which are easily overcome with noise ninja. if you spend the money on a great camera better have great software as well. One has to expect challenges doing night shots at 6400 iso. I also saw complaints about low lcd and that is an easy fix with an auto lighting optimizer section. Also can be fixed with with an lcd brightness.
I have owned 4 canon slr's and each has their own charm. The 20d had great features but limited lens focusing compared to the xti rebel. The xti was llimited to 1600 iso compared to the 40d at 3200. The 40d does not have the same sensor, grid display, 18 point focus system vs 9, speed and iso depth as the 7d.
I can admit at 1st I had second thoughts and frustrations like others with the same complaints Once you learn and adapt to its special functions, the real charm of this camera comes alive. The only con was getting thru the learning curve and effectively using it's custom functions.
Adding the copyright information is a must for any enthusiast who wish to be or is on the cusp of calling themselves a professional.
Pros: great battery life, customized settings, preset copyright tagging, 6400 iso, best grid display, 18 point focus system
Cons: finding and combining the customized settings

Awesome camera for the price

This is a great camera and a great alternative to the 5D Mark II if you want to save ~$1000 and get most of the same features and operation. I don't mind that this is not full frame, but the main concern with both the 7D and 5DMkII, when using movie mode, is the lack of any control over audio as well as a headphone output jack. I'm glad there's a mic input, but without manual level control and a live headphone out to monitor levels it is pretty much necessary to run external sound if you need good audio. Otherwise the stills from this camera are amazing and the video blows everything else in the price range away (as long as the camera is not moving because there is a slight issue with the way the shutter works with camera movement).
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Solid Operation
Cons: Missing features/settings

Excellent image quality, bothersome error codes

I just purchased this camera 1 week ago on February 17th as an upgrade to my canon 50D. The first thing I noticed was the excellent build qaulity and ergonomics. This camera just feels great in your hands. I consider myself an advanced user and found going through all of the custom settings and features a daunting task, not that it is necessarily difficult, if time is taken to read the manual, it's just that there are sooooo many! I see this as a good thing, but if you are new to the DSLR market, you may want to start a little smaller. I was stuck trying to decide between the 5DmkII and the 7D. I decided on the 7D for a few reasons. Not to sound cheap, but the 5DmkII is almost $1000.00 more, second I like the new 19 point autofocus. It works well when framing a portrait and using manual focus points, there are 19 points to choose from, covering the entire face. I also like the high continuous frame rate of the 7D over the 5DmkII. The video is a great added feature, but is going to take some time getting used to in manual mode. The only problem I have encountered, is 4 days after purchasing this camera, I recorded a 3 minute video testing some custom settings and when I stopped the recording I got a message reading "ERROR 02" can not access memory card. I turned the camera off, back on again and the camera failed to write the video to the card. All other photos were still on the card, but the video had failed to write. I thought maybe it was from one of the settings I had set, but after further research, it seems a pretty common occurance with no reasonable explanation. Some reports I have read, canon blames the CF card. Other reports state that canon has replaced components in some cameras to remedy the problem but the consumer still experiences periodic " ERROR 02". I find this a little disturbing, that after 1 week I have already had "ERROR" messages that are unexplainable. I have used my 50D for over 1 year now on a regular basis, multiple times per week and never had a single "ERROR" message. Hopefully this is the only time this happens to me, and maybe canon will come up with a firmware update to correct this for other people. Overall I think this is a great camera, excellent build quality, fantastic image quality, and more custom features than one can imagine! I only hope there is a quick and easy fix to the common "ERROR 02"
Pros: quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Simple controls/menu
Cons: error 02

I bought my 7D 2 years ago, and have been satisfied with my purchase.
It is a super fast, reliable and solid camera. The autofocus is accurate and the speed is such that it easy to 'get the shot'. Good battery life if all you are doing is walk around photography. The camera is also super durable.
My biggest complaint is that the 7D's pictures are all somewhat 'soft'. I have heard this is attributed to a particularly strong AA filter. I am always cranking up the sharpness on DPP or lightroom. Also, I wouldn't think of using less than the top of the line lenses for the 7D, I'm currently using the 15-85mm and 24-105mm primarily on this camera. I have used a couple lower quality lenses and was thoroughly disappointed with the results. Other than that, this camera is heavy, but that is also what gives it its durability.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Superior build quality, Solid Operation
Cons: Poor image quality, Heavy/Bulky

Almost 5 stars but...............

Purchased the 7D a couple of weeks back to upgrade from my 40D. I liked the idea of being able to use my L lenses to shoot video as well as still images. This is a great camera except for the audio limiter that produces unacceptable results when using the video function. A firmware upgrade is definitely needed to address this problem. Considering the cost of this camera this is an issue that Canon needs to address to make this a 5 star camera.
Pros: superior image quality, easy use, nice display
Cons: terrible audio, noisy, needs firmware upgrade
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have been photographing with digital cameras for about 18 years, with over 30+ years of photography experience. I have progressed with Canon DSLR's from the 10D, to 20D, to 30D, to the 7D. Prior to purchasing the 7D, I considered the 5D Mark II, but because of the difference in the frames per second, purchased the 7D. Last year I photographed an event with two different Canon DSLRs-30D and 7D with different lens (wide angle vs. zoom). When I compared the 30D images to the 7D images, the 7D images were dramatically sharper. I was so disappointed in the quality of the 30D images, 8 vs. 18 Meg pixels, I purchased a second Canon 7D. I continue to photograph a number of outdoor events and have been extremely satisfied with the performance of the 7D.
I read a number of the attached reviews and some of the criticisms are valid, such as the Audio Control & Balance, and the lack of 'tracking' in Video Mode. Overall the 7D is an excellent camera for the advanced and professional photographer.
Readers should be aware that there is a slight difference between the 10D-50D, and I assume the 60D, control functions and the 7D. However, I adapted to the slight cahnges quickly.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

Awesome Camera!

I purchased this camera because my point and shoot was not longer cutting it. With my new baby, I couldn't delay this purchase any longer for fear or losing important family moments because of a cheap point and shoot. I'm not a camera expert but have a lot of experience in IT. I purchased this camera based on the recommended of a colleague who is a camera expert. In short, it was a great recommendation. The learning curve is short and it is high on quality and features. It just simply works and works really well. I recommend this to anybody who is prepared to make a serious investment in a prosumer camera and ditch their point and shoot.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
