A great camera a big step up from my Rebel XTI, I have had no problems learning the new controls. The big down side is that if you shoot in RAW format Adobe Photoshop does not support 7D raw images. After a month of emails from Adobe helpless deslk they have no plans to support it. Had I know that I would have chosen another model.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD
Cons: Heavy/Bulky
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great DSLR

I finally decided to break down and buy a DSLR. I used to shoot stills on film back in the day and promised myself I would buy one once they could beat film in most respects DR, resolution, etc.. Well, the 7D sure doesn't disappoint in that respect. I also plan on making good use of the video function this camera has to offer.
This camera is built like a brick, I'm not kidding I bet you could take a few thousand of them and build a nice house if you were so inclined. I found the controls very easy to learn, no more or less complex than the video cameras I'm used to using. The image quality is great in still mode, and the HD video isn't too shabby either. I'm still playing around with settings and will be trying some custom image styles soon, which I hope can get me even more DR in video mode.
Anyways I'm quite satisfied overall with this DSLR and I hope it gives me at least a few years of trouble free service.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, good battery life
Cons: Heavy/Bulky

Love this camera

I just recently got this camera and love it, i own the rebel t7i and while it is also a great camera this just takes it over the notch on professional. It was previously owned and the camera is still taking clear crisp photos. While at times it does not focus properly on the subject at hand and i have to readjust a setting or position it still has me in awe with its outcome. I love this camera and hope to use it for many years!

Great for video but lacks key features

I've been a filmmaker for over 20 years and I've used some of the best movie cameras in the industry. I was really impressed with the way this camera captures video. Outstanding picture quality. But I became quickly discouraged by the fact that there is no option to disable the Automatic Gain Control (AGC), or use manual audio settings. While I'm used to syning audio in post from working with film, I was really hoping this camera would allow me to work with an onboard mic, but the AGC makes it imposible to get usable audio. This is even more frustrating when Canon has lower end cameras with the ability to disable AGC and control audio levels!
Please Canon, release a firmware update that will: 1. Disable Automatic Gain (AGC) 2. Allow for manual audio level control 3. Provide CLEAN HDMI output 4. Provide crop marks for 1:85, 2:35, 2:40
Enabling these features will make this a 5 star camera!
Pros: great video, great stills, 1080p, 24p
Cons: automatic gain control ruins your audio, no clean hdmi output, no aspect ratio crop marks for 2:40:1

Too much work to get sharp images!

I've had the 7D camera for 2 years now and have used it for many shooting situations and all conditions. I had thought all along that the images I produced were somewhat soft (as like that allergy med commercial says to get clear!) and there seemed to be less contrast than normal.
While I have been able to correct some photo situations with post processing software, I have also lost many more shots I will never be able to use, fix or replace. I wish I had known early on that these issues where not the result of my own ability...but at times had thought it may be time or me to give up shooting because of these frustrations.
I did a test while vacationing in June 2011 while photographing landscapes and wildlife. The camera was set on a tripod with timed release shutter where I did not touch the camera. I took 100's of photos...and on nearly all camera settings and under many conditions. When viewing these photos on my laptop I noticed the camera was one plane off focus on nearly every shot using a mutitude of lenses from kit thru "L". I then tried focusing on manual one plane closer to and then one farther away from my subject and to my supprise I found the camera focus was always a plane beyond my actual subject no matter the distance. It became really aparent the more distance between myself and my subject the more I noticed the focus was off. It was the same for manual and AF. I now shoot many more photos than normal and have practiced being on a mark slightly in front of my subject where only to my eye I know it is still slightly off and every once in a while I get a tick tack image. Most low-light photos produce too much grain to use, even shooting with a 2.8 "L" lens.
While I have been a faithful Canon user and supporter since I began in 1993 I am now rethinking that Canon might not be my best options moving forward and after my tests and others tests.
I hope Canon can come up with something to correct this focus situation on the 7D as it is a nice camera. It took them almost 3 years to correct a similar situation on their MkIII model and moving forward my next buy may be from a competitor if I'm to get the best results possible for image results. You have to start with good to get good! This time Canon you got my money! This only because it was too late to return the camera when I figured out this was not me! Knowing that is my only relief to date. Buyer beware!

Great Purchase

Had never owned a Canon Digital camera, had a couple other brands and was not sure about going with this one but I am real glad I did, it is fast, the focus is great, the color is fantastic. There is very little touch up with this camera, I'm not used to that, the cameras that I have used in the past required alot more work in the digital darkroom, Very pleased with this buy.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: noisy

This camera rocks. It makes your friends green with envy. Every feature about this camera is amazing, I can't leave it sitting for more than 5 minutes. I sleep with it under my pillow. Not really, that would be silly, I might break it. FYI the grinding sound that you hear when you are focusing/in video mode is the lens stabilizer. To fix this, turn it off.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, good battery life, awesomeness
Cons: grinding sound

Day time shot are good. I changed 3 7Ds all had the same problem.
