This 7D was purchased as soon that it came out. It was an upgrade from my 50D (also a great camera). I have kept up with the firmware up-grades which is very easy from the canon web site. This camera has it all, I would have up-graded again by now, but to what? At this time there is no other camera that has all the features of the 7D. I will consider the new 5Dmark? when it comes out, however to beat the 7D it will really have to be something.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, great price
I would recommend this to a friend!

Excellent SLR Camera

Purchased EOS 7D in Hong Kong China, in May 2010 Toured Mainland China and took many pictures out of the box with very little experiance on Digital SLR but had great Pictures most of the time anyway! I didn't realize my instruction manuals were in Japanese until I got back to my hotel on the day of purchase. So I downloaded all the info for the Camera from Cannon's website. I have been learning more as time goes by. I had a SLR Camera in the late 70's so I'm more of a intermediate hobby photographer. This unit has many, many, features and I have a lot to learn yet but these are the best pictures I've ever taken. I've had this camera in aircraft, on ships and boats, near mist from water falls and have had no physical / mechanical problems. If you are not already well versed on digital photography, plan on hitting the books if you want to take advantage of what this camera has to offer.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Heavy/Bulky

Just got back from Sanibel FLA and rapid fired a 7500 shot spree through Ding Darling 6 days in a row. Very impressed with the 7d as it gets really clear focus using hand held 80% of the time. Great camera in the rain as well. A moderate rain will not do anything to this tank. Buy the large battery pack and shoot all day long.

Fantastic Camera

I originally bought this camera for stills, but I eventually moved into film and now I use this camera 90% for filming. This camera has never failed me, battery life is great when taking photos. Only complaints I have would be that noise past 3200 makes the image unusable.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, easy to use
Cons: noisy

Wishing for more....

I have used the 7D for almost two months and it does provide improvements in functionality in terms of auto focus speed and access to settings. However I have been very disappointed in the image quality with respect to this camera's ability to capture scenes requiring wide dynamic range. Even with much tweaking and experimenting, it seems as though the 7D may not be capable of maintaining fine detail in both the shadows and highlights simultaneously. This difficulty became pronounced when I shot two weddings recently using the 7D. Unfortunately, the brides were not impressed with the lack of fine detail in their wedding gowns, an issue that was NOT caused by post processing errors or the use of improper camera settings or poor shooting technique. I would have liked to have seen a 7D with fewer megapixels and better low light performance and better dynamic range capability.
Pros: quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: Poor image quality, noisy, poor color fidelity
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Focus, Soft Focus and OOF and exposure

My 7D with the 17-55mm 2.8 has oof and soft focus issues I can't correct with MA. The same goes with the 50mm 1.8. Ever with single point of fofuc with mirror up on tripod with a lot of light from 2.8 to 10.0 and above I just can't get the 7D to be tack sharp. If you do get a good shot you have to post with so much sharpness that other aspects are thrown off. Using multi point focus there is so much front and back focus that MA is usless. The 7D is not for pro's as how could I get such a bad copy with bad glass too??? If you google "7D Defective Focus Issues" it's amazing how many people are YELLING! Canon... you can do better than this! Make us whole. Please tell us how to fix these defective 7D's
Cons: out of focus, soft focus, exposure

7D looks good

I have upgraded from the 40D to the 7D. I use the camera mostly for wildlife photos. I really like the one screen adjustment instead of pressing all the different buttons.
Image quality is very good so far but this is a slow time of year for my photo work. I am a hobby-est. The one problem I have is that my Apple Aperture does not read the RAW files. Not a problem with my 40D. I need to get with Apple on that.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

Wanted to love it, BUT

I tried two different bodies and experienced the same problem with both, neither one could focus consistently in AI Servo mode. One shot mode produces lovely, clear, high res shots with so much detail, keeper rate in servo was less than 20%.
I'm no noobe, I have shot with 30d, 50d, 5d, 5dMark2 and 1dMarkIII, with no problems. The 7d cannot focus accurately, even with focus lock exactly where I want it to be!
For now, I'll stick to the 1d for my action shots. Maybe Canon will work out the bugs in a month or two.
Pros: quiet, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use
Cons: Poor image quality, inconsistent af in servo mode
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
