First DSLR

This is my first DSLR ever. As expected, I'm very happy with this camera. It takes fantastic photos and amazing Hi-Def video. I've done a lot of research on different DSLRs and thought this one was perfect for my needs... which were great burst speeds for shooting sports (up to 8 Frames Per Second), a weather resistant body and fast dual processors. If you are starting out in photography or videography and if you can afford it... get the 7D. You will not be dissapointed.
Pros: quiet, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, beautiful hd video

Purchased the 7D for video projects

Purchased the 7D for video projects and so far am very happy with it. If your looking for pro audio it will cost you $400 depending on what you go with b/c you need a way to disable the Auto Gain Control on the camera and currently there is no way to do this on the camera. Not a show stopper just pick up a AGC disabling XLR preamp. Over all I am very pleased with the performance of the 7D. It is fast, accurate, creates great images and video with excellent color. Really wish Canon would provide some sort of Firmware update to give controls over AGC or Manuel audio levels, it would still be very nice to have.
Pros: quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: no agc disable, no audio level control

Camera ahead of Me..

I shoot landscapes to HS sports for local paper. Used 40d for 2 years and yet felt I need more fps and better low light capabilities.
Initially, I found that my camera skills lacking in using 7d.. I had to hands on work each picture, organize my thought process to speed up to Camera level...I don't look at LCD when I am taking sports pictures, as it waste battery AND I have missed great shots because i was reviewing my earlier shots. Set and use custom C1-C3 are just great.
Use Prime lenses about half time for sport events, and 7d really shines with them, 50,85 and 135 really use 8fps and yet below 1600 ISO..I don't own Flash unit and haven't really needed one so far, even for HS BB. Use only Sandisk Extreme cards, fast enough to catch 8fps and quick downloads.
I had to mentally work on learning to easily, 1. change focus point settins, understand subject tracking capabilites and limits. Owner must take time to learn the capabilities of this camera, otherwise go buy a P/S..
Only use Canon lenses. others may say they get good results with 3rd party and they may, but Canon lense were built only to be used on Canon cameras...Surprisingly some of my best sports, landscapes, etc pics are using 50 f1.4 on the 7d,, and can get good results in almost No light situation.. If you own 7d, try in sports using AUTO ISO...It lets the camera use my settings and then set the needed ISO... for me, getting the picture is better than no picture....
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation
Cons: Difficult to use, Complicated controls/menu

Canon hit it out of the park

We bought this camera as an upgrade for a rebel and have not regretted it. We had a list of features and performance that this camera meets or exceeded. We shoot mainly family, portraits, indoor and outdoor sports, and landscapes. The 8FPS makes sports photos a breeze and ease to capture the right moment. The AF system is fast, accurate, and you have more choices now on how to use the AF system. We are now able to shoot basketball without a flash and get great pictures.
The files are a bit noisy at higher ISO but clean up nicely with noise reduction software.
Our favorite new feature is the remote flash master. I never knew how much I needed this. We now have the flash off the camera and at a more pleasing angle.
This camera is outstanding and we don't even shoot video.
This camera takes a bit to get use too. Remember we upgraded from a simple rebel.
Yes, the menus and controls are complications but not difficult with practice because you have much more control over every aspect of the camera. Many more choices.
It is heavier then a rebel because of the large battery and the fact it is make of metal not plastic.
The only real surprise for us was the size of the files. At 8FPS and 18MP you will eat up a small memory card and your hard drive quickly. I suggest a minimum of a fast 8G card and look at a computer upgrade in the near future. We have.
Thanks Canon for another great camera.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation

7D year 3

I have 2 7D's. I am a freelance sports shooter in Northern Virginia and am able to capture some really great shots using the 7D with the 70-200 L IS II and the 17-40 L IS for the short shots. I sling the short shot 7D and monopod the long. I shoot a lot in low light and am able to control the noise (High ISO) by adjusting the speed and using the 8fps high burst rate. I do have to cull the bad ones out but I alway have those that are tack sharp. I find the 7D easy to setup and work with. The weight can be a bit much when using large glass and thats why they have monopods and tripods. The only feature I miss would be not having a dual CF and SD card slots.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

The Hits Keep Coming

Canon has knocked it out of the park again.
The 5d mkll and 7d are changing the face of media and photography. It's not 'video' anymore. It's Digital Cinema.
Next step will be to reduce the compression and expand bit rate or dare I dream... a true RAW codec. No doubt, it's only a matter of time.
Only weakness is the failure to keep pace with lens design as these new sensors require great glass and few Canon lenses are truly up to the task.
