Unbelievable!

I have used a 10D, 30D, 50D, and now a 7D. The 7D is the ultimate camera. Noise is well controlled at higher ISO's and is far superior to the 50D. The video function is superb and has made this an all in one solution for me. I've sold the 50D and my Sony HD camcorder. Highly recommended.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, good battery life, video

Having been canon user for more than ten years, I am satisfied with 7D.
I take quick movement subject frequently, and upgraded from 40D recently.
My favorite new features are the focus system and wireless flash control.
What I don't like:
1. The multifunction key is impossible to reach when using a battery grip to take photos in the portrait oreintation.
2. It is very hard to focus automatically during video mode.
3. The shutter release button on the battery grip is tooooooooooooooo sensitive. The worst one I have seen for those of 5 different Canon cameras.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, easy to use

Incredible Camera - Challenge for First-Time SLR
on October 31, 2010

The Canon 7D is a superb, high quality, very capable camera that takes incredible photos. I have been impressed by the quality of the construction, the weather-proofing, and the solid performance. The 7D will meet the needs of discerning photographers and videographers and I suspect that veteran users will not be disappointed.
That said, because it is so capable and because it is targeted at semi-pro users, it does not have many of the custom settings preinstalled that more casual photographers rely on. For example, just taking casual photos at a dinner party takes a bit more programming than I expected, especially if using a high-quality faster lens. This is due to the shallow depth of field in wider aperture lenses which leads many new users to suspect focusing problems. The problem is remedied on the 7D by shooting in aperture priority mode at a smaller aperture and setting an ideal ISO. On many other, less capable and lower end cameras, this is done automatically through a custom setting.
That said, this is the best camera I've ever owned or used and I think it is superior to competing cameras in the same price range.
I would recommend this camera wholeheartedly to anyone who is serious about photography and who wants to have the best Canon camera on which to learn and practice their art. But, for the casual user, I'd suggest looking a little lower -- and still gettting superb quality images -- in the Canon T1i, T2i, or 60D.
Pros: incredible solid construction, great ergonomics make it easy to hold and use, capable of performing nearly any photographic task, bracketing of photos is a handy feature
Cons: complicated but capable

Amazing Camera
on January 20, 2011

I bought the 7D last winter as an upgrade to my 40D. I must say I have been pleased with the consistent output of the 40D but wanted the speed for my sports shots. The 7D is amazing and comes with a whole load of bells and whistles not on the 40D and in fact not a part of the 5D Mark II (which I purchased about 5 months ago).
The shutter speed on the 7D is fast and quiet. I've taken indoor concert pictures in natural light and have been amazed with the quality of the pictures the camera produces even at very high ISO speeds.
I would have to agree there was only one problem I have had with the 7D as at least one other reviewer wrote about and that has to do with the white balance. Right out of the box the balance was off. I have found however several ways to correct the problem.. One has to do with the use of an Expodisc filter(It works with custom white balance) and the other trick is to adjust on the fly using live mode by adjusting kelvin on the view screen. I also have found that over time the white balance issue has pretty much disappeared.
As amazing as it may seem after buying the 5D Mark II (an outstanding camera and incredible for portrait work) it made me appreciate the added features of the 7D even more. For speed the 7D beats the 5D Mark II hands down. Disk format is lightning fast, has more features and a built in Speedlight flash master transmitter.
As others have noted this would be the perfect camera if it was full-frame. Irrespective it is a best bang for the buck.
Pros: fast shutter speed, terrific pictures, outstanding for sports, loaded with features, amazing iso range
Cons: white balance can be touchy

Great Performer and loads of fun

I've been using 7D now for almost a year and I am really happy with it. Considering the price you sure do get a great value. It's professional feel and attention to detail sure makes it fit your hand like a glove. It's fast, it's reliable, it's got plenty of features for semi-pros. Of course there are some downsides. I have found noise levels on this camera rather high compared to 5D II and I've used variety of lenses on it with the same result. Having said that it's still good quality just not superb. It simply seems that cropped sensor doesn't get quite that detail and smoothness of the full size sensor. Real shame but I guess that's why you pay heaps less. So let's say it's an audi engine inside a ferrari so not quite superb but decent and will get you a good result. Other big problem is 12 minute limit on video recording. I was hoping this will be fixed with 2.0 firmware update but doesn't look like the case. Apart from that it's a great piece of gear that gives you full flexibility and wont let you down. I still strongly recommend it and hopefully they will keep this model current with future firmware updates.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: noisy, limited video recording time

This camera is quicker faster cheaper and the live vciew is superior . The meter is way better, it focuses and tracks better than the 1d mark III and its shutter is not that much slower as to matter to me.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life

Nice Companion of the 5D

This is a nice companion to the Canon 5D (or 5D Mark 2).
I bought it for the additional reach that is achieved with the 1.6 mulitplier of the smaller sensor. I use it mostly with the telephoto zoom or long lens (500mm). The additonal speed (fps) is nice for the occasional sporting event.
Pros: good battery life, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, easy to use, electronic grid in viewfinder

Canon did it right!
on February 8, 2010

I had the 450D and 500D prior to the 7D, and the 7D is just superior in every which way. The build is incredible, the high ISO performance is stellar, and the menu interface and customization makes it a real joy to use. I think Canon did right with this camera.
The 7D though, may be too much “camera” for beginners. It is a really advanced camera in the end, and if you don't know your way around it the results may not be as great as you hope. Once you learn it inside and out, the 7D is capable of incredible photographs with very little effort.
Great job Canon!
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, excellent high iso capability
Cons: may be difficult for beginners
