I’m not very happy with this product. I spent a lot of money ordering these cartridges and they do not work. I keep getting a message that they are incompatible, but they are the same ones I have used for years.

That sounds very frustrating. I’m sorry that you had this problem.
It is likely that the printer is not getting a good connection with the cartridge and that is why it doesn't recognize it.
The contacts on the cartridge might be smudged or damaged. Carefully polish the copper contacts on the cartridge (and the matching ones inside the printer) with lint-free material to get off fingerprints or dust.
If that does not help, please consider returning it.
I've been using this HP cartridge for more than 10 years in the same HP printer/scanner/copier. I have never had any problems with the quality or performance of this product in that time.
