There is an obvious reason as to why this set, or any set, cost more then the Dragon Ball GT sets. Its because GT was a horrible series.
Anyways this set is the start of it all. More of a fantasy world loosely based on the Chinese Classics "Journey to the West" and focusing more on martial arts compared to DBZ, this is where the Dragon Ball series is arguably at its best. Season 1 shows us the first quest for the Dragon Balls, introductions to classic characters of the DB universe and also has the first tournament saga climaxing with Goku VS Jackie Chun in the finals. A great first season with no cliffhangers at the end to possibly ruin watching the set. Good action and comedy; a must for any DB/DBZ fan.
But parents should be warned that they may not like some of the jokes made early on in the series and one joke in Disc 3 involving a girl fighting in her underwear as part of her strategy. All of the jokes are fairly innocent, playing on Young Goku's naviety and lack of contact with other people and Master Roshi's perverse nature despite being the strongest person in the world at the time. But parents should be aware just in case and the fact these jokes become rarer as the series goes on.
What's great about it: Great, cheap collection of Season. First Tenkaichi tournament!
What's not so great: Some stuff parents might not like their kids seeing, Pre-digital age series.

It ends the season without much of the cliffhanger and in the middle of plot it seems. This item is what it is a dvd that works well and it has a feature that lets you watch the entire DVD without having to watch the beginning or end credits everytime. Only one each.

I can't gush enough about this series. I watched this before DBZ and was always having a good time. This brought so much fun and nostalgia. This was back when Dragon Ball was more funny than serious. There were epic martial arts tournaments that weren't so OP like the DBZ ones. Just fun all around.

Like many I grew up watching Dragonball Z but unlike many I never watched Dragonball I tried to briefly but was honestly bored. I ended up picking up the series bit by bit after starting to watch the franchise again with the movies (Battle of Gods/Resurrection F). So I went back and decided to get the others (DBZ Kai, Dragonball, GT, Super) and I ended up watching Dragonball first and wow it was a big change. I've gotten through the first season thus far but I'm really enjoying it. I'm looking forward to going through the rest when I have the time and would recommend to anyone who likes the others. Thankfully this series was released properly too with no nonsensical “must put in widescreen” logic applied instead leaving it as it's meant to be and I still have it covering my whole TV without zoom or anything of that nature. Also a big fan of the marathon feature some of Funimations sets have though it doesn't always work well (the now out of print Fullmetal Alchemist set is an example of it's flaw with it cutting off the end of episodes) but that's a whole different series. The only thing I wish was that the packaging was different I've never been a fan of out of the ordinary packaging due to it potentially taking up more space/being harder if not impossible to replace. But that's a minor gripe.
