I bought this after my current phone service kept going up, with every one in the house hold already having cell phones this line is more for emergency's and loved ones who have known my home phone # for years so i keep it. this product came with a month of premium service, i ported my old phone number for 40 dollars and had to wait a month really before getting a chance to actually take advantage of there premium 9 dollars a mouth service of course it was too late by then oh well, im sure is a great deal provided what you get,, however email after email a few calls and even a servery plus a promise of a free gift if keep this service really got annoying real quick. although they have died down , once you get past that initial annoyance. its hard to complain. considering its still saving a whole lot of money monthly i mean in just a few months, i will have saved enough money to justify my initial cost plus the extra 35 dollars for the one day of service the other guys billed me for calming i still had service with them on that Day i was scheduled to have my phone transferred over to be in service with Oomma, (they clamed oomma never requested to have my phone number stopped with them as there instructions said other wise with the whole porting process) I was told if you just notify your old phone company they will work something out so you don't get billed an extra mouth for one day of service which should never have happened in the first place , they want you to call so they have more of an excuse to get you to stay they will attempt to bring your phone service down to 9 dollars too likely. this still was not in the best interest for me considering i dont make a lot of national calls ,Needless to say im still trying to figure out how to configure the amount of times the phone rings before its auto answer machine picks up i do not fuss with the online log in i just set it up and forgot about it , i'm use to my current phone answer machine its not easy to get the perfect mail phone box message you know so i stick with what i got, unfortunately it only rings a few times before it picks up since im still meaning to get around to changing it off the default 5 rings i set my regular one to 4 .all in all there are lots of neat and promising cool new features Omaha seems to be working on to bring to there paid service, like Custom mp3 ring tones for when some one that calls the house a shout outs like John is calling or Its your Mother, and the ability to use the phone even when power is lost or the internet is down (not sure how they will pull that one off but it leaves me looking forward to seeing whats to come, or what of those features they will provide , id suggested the ability to pick up your home phone calls on your cell phone. there's a spot for you to fill in the blanks so to speak give ideas , all in all a real good product that truly seems to be driven by the consumer
What's great about it: setup was painless call quality great only a couple of lost calls
What's not so great: customer service pushy to go with the premium service
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great phone system

I've been checking out Ooma for the past couple of years. Recently I switched to a cable modem and increased my internet speed as that seemed to be a problem some have had in getting clear calls. Calls are great with Ooma. I have been using Ooma for about a month now with no problems. I added the extra phone line because I also run a small business out of my home.
I primarily use my Uniden 3 phone system for the majority of my calls but i also have one Ooma handset in order to take advantage of the second line.
The initial startup costs were substantial (almost $400 for the hub, extra phone and 1 years worth of premium service) but i would have paid that in a little over six months anyway. By January 1 my costs should be about even had i stayed with Verizon (so thankful to be done with them). Beginning in 2011 all calls will be free with the exception of local taxes.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: haven't found anything yet
I would recommend this to a friend!

My review of the Ooma Telo is clouded by the fact that the first unit failed after one week. None of the keys on the unit would function.
Ooma supplied a previous-revision refurbished unit as a replacement, and while this is working OK so far (one week, and counting), I'm concerned about the long term reliability of the Ooma Telo.
The voice quality is good, over a cable internet service provider, and I have found the QoS to be better if the Telo is inserted between the cable modem and my wireless router.
What's great about it: Much cheaper than prior landline, esp. for international calls
What's not so great: Unit reliability suspect, based on first unit failing < 1 week
I would recommend this to a friend!

I am fairly new to Ooma. I love the product and recommend it to anyone thinking about switching. Why pay for a landline when you can get home phone service for free. If all you need is a dial tone, voice mail, and caller ID.. then it's free.. however... the ooma premier features are soooo awesome that it will be hard to resist upgrading to it.
On the negative side of things... don't bother getting the optional ooma handset. Get yourself a decent cordless phone. The handset is cheap.. and the phone quality is terrible. I used it for a month and returned it.
Overall.. Ooma rocks. I'm soooo happy I finally made the switch.. and so long to my monthly phone bills.
What's great about it: No more phone bils
What's not so great: The ooma handset stinks

I've been using Ooma for about 2 weeks and think it is absolutely amazing. I highly recommend it. The setup was extremely easy between the modem and the router. Within 30 minutes it had configured itself, I had a new phone number and I was making phone calls. I called China yesterday and the quality was better than I've ever experienced over a land-line. I literally had to hold the receiver away from my head because it came in so clearly. I have two minor issues with the device, however. Although the sound quality is superb, there is a definite delay between speakers. To test this, call someone and count "1-2-3" in a steady tempo and ask the other person to say "4" on the next beat. By the time it reaches you it's delayed. Even with people who are just two streets away you would think you were calling long distance. You quickly get used to it, but I wonder if the people I'm talking to are annoyed. The other issue I have is that my modem and router are not in a centrally convenient location like the kitchen. Since the Telo is also an answering machine, I can't see that I have messages unless I go upstairs. This can be solved by just not using the Telo answering system and continuing to use my handset's, but then I've just lost one of the cool Telo features. The other solution is to buy the Ooma handset and put that in the kitchen since it allows you to see and retrieve messages, but I've heard mixed to bad reviews regarding that device--perhaps they'll get it right with version 2.0. Plus it's another 50 bucks.
Oh, one other thing, it's my humble opinion that those people who are having trouble with the Ooma and it's installation are either not tech savvy (not that you need to be) or else they have other issues, such as a poor internet connection. EVERYTHING is spelled out for you. Some people have talked about "hidden fees". If they just read the product description they'd see that it is all spelled out very clearly. For example, there is a yearly fee of about $12 that is a federal tax of some sort. That is written right on the Telo box; it's on their website; it's in numerous blogs regarding the Ooma. Do your homework, and then decide.
In summary, I highly recommend the system. It truly works, and works well.
What's great about it: Super easy to install and use; very high quality
What's not so great: Delay in sound; Physical location of the device is limiting

Great System, Works With Fax Machine!

This product works wonder, I am a real estate agent so this product helps ALOT! Works great with fax machines and incoming and outgoing calls are CRISP AND CLEAR! Best of all its FREE!!! Yeah you pay a one time fee of 11.95$ every year but it beats paying AT&T's 30 a month for home phone service! I will save over $400 a year from now on! Great product and it DELIVERS 100% Go get one today, one tip wait until it goes on sale at Best Buy I got it for $199.99!!!
What's great about it: Works with fax machines! You must enable fax mode to receive incoming faxes.
What's not so great: Nothing....I LOVE THIS SYSTEM! I converted all my family to buying one!
I would recommend this to a friend!
